Ah, same story everywhere unfortunately.

Some trails > some more trails > awesome features, woodwork, Instagram etc > complaints > bulldozers..... > some trails.

There's similar going on at a small area behind Daresbuy Park just outside Warrington. Little trails and jumps that have been there for years, built up by locals and kids. Area was 'discovered' by walkers and doggers during their lockdown outdoor exercise and now it's under threat of removal. Rotten sods, what real harm is it doing?

So not actually 'our' trails behind Nationwide then.
Seems to have been sorted having read it all.

Reminding them of what fun actually was before they became bitter and twisted.

They don't like it, so they're going to destroy it.

Similar story in Huddersfield - some lads did a small amount of digging adjacent to the local golf course, but well hidden in the woods. Top boy of the course was apparently fine with it initially, no nuisance very polite bunch stay away from the course etc. But removed after a few weeks - presumably not all the golf club members were so tolerant.

Hmm.. not so much bitter old people but people who have different interests than the bikers. Ie an interest in nature and history. I know the area and there is a lot of ancient archaeology and important natural habitats around there and I do think in the biking world we could try to encourage the young to respect those aspects and think before going digging willy nilly.

Badbury clumps isn't too far from there if they want to hit jumps and is all sanctioned by the national trust who's land it's on.

It was the trails in Lordswood being levelled 2 or 3 times a year that was one of the reasons I built Southampton Bike Park.

Even with full permission and a year of public consultation before cutting the first turf there were problems. The police were called because a bunch of vandals were digging up the grass, complaints to the council that we had destroyed the only place in the Sports Centre where you could have a picnic and I was told by one particularly pleasant dog walker that I had done more damage to Southampton with the Bike Park that Hitler during the war.

Don't panic people of STW this is the opposite side of the road to the proper "Woods behind Nationwide".

These are the actual woods behind it, rather that the woods slightly to the side of it which is where the real action is.

Thus it ever was.

trials would get stale if they didn’t get knocked down every couple of years.

A touch harsh on the judiciary but I feel your pain...

Plenty of action to be had in the actual woods even before the diggers.

Yet another middle-aged dog owner who can't share and has gone out of his way to cause and escalate any issues.

They're always self-appointed and have time on their hands! Demand answers without authority, protocol and on behalf of people who didn't ask them to do it. Attempt to appeal to a moral high ground. Incite "like-minded" locals into mini war cabinets, making a bigger deal of things than actually exists. Use media to garner a emotional response from the like-minded readership, these publications rely on for a living, who lap it up like sacred ambrosia.

It's a British cancer.

unlike the people building the trails, who are elected officials, and very very busy with important stuff?

exactly what this thread is doing

And you can't see the irony of a dog-whistle thread on a cycling forum complaining about a dog-whistle article in a local paper?

BITD there used to be cyclocross races at Croft sports centre which incorporated the nearby woods. At the time nobody was worried about the odd cx rider going round the woodland trails but as mountainbiking took off (anybody remember the Downlanders club?) the traffic in the woods increased. Complaints about the damage to the bluebells etc led to the council allocating the 'woods behind nationwide' to the mountain bike fraternity on the condition that they stayed out of the croft woods. Therefore, somewhat understandable that folk are getting irked about trail building back in croft woods..............

Its always bloody dog walkers. More places available to them to go than just about anyone but want to use an area near (because its not usually where dog walkers like to walk) where they walk? No go away. (I love dogs but as a group dog walkers seem to have a massive over representation of noisy miserable gits.)

Certain people always seem to moan about kids hanging around the streets, or taking drugs of or something else. So the kids go and do something else, and the same people still ****ing complain.

...but owning a dog makes you happier? So were it not for their faithful canine companions they'd spontaneously combust just leaving particles of pork pie, daily mail, and curdled righteousness.

I've been waiting for Paul the Punter videos from these hallowed woods, anyone seen him in the area?

There was a report on Welsh news last night about one of those action groups who are trying to get kids to report drug dealers on Insta, or something like that. At one point, it was suggested that the groups who hang around skate parks are the cause of the problem. I can only assume it's true, because it's being reported on the hyper-accurate BBC and that skate parks are dangerous places. 😀

Reminding them of what fun actually was before they became bitter and twisted.

They don’t like it, so they’re going to destroy it.

Swansea city centre has been remodelled for the umpteenth time this decade, at great cost. One of the features are low walls in a wave pattern, which are a magnet for skateboarders. So the council, at even more expense, is adding little fences to the top of the walls to stop the skateboarders.

Laughed at that myself, not that long ago we popped into my oh's grans house, she witnessed the German plane that caused carnage in the centre of Southampton during WW2.
Off topic but a very interesting lady who'd think nothing of cycling 90 miles or so. Used to carry spare wheels back then apparently.
At the end of the war she went out to the back garden and attacked the Anderson shelter with a big hammer.

@Twodogs Makes a change to see a different narrative than old person harmlessly going about their business abused by young punks. I'm not expecting a knock on the door from the press complaints anytime soon!

We have a group of people (obviously not all of them) who are very vocal about not wanting anyone on two wheels anywhere, sanctioned or unsanctioned, doesn't make any difference to them. It is not reciprocal. There are no groups of mountain bikers/cyclists, I'm aware of, who want or are pushing for exclusion of other user groups. Nor do they bowl around making sure everyone knows about it.
