Anyone taking precautions tonight/tomorrow for the winters first big storm? We've already had announcements of cancelled trains and buses. Panic buying at the supermarket too - or was that only me taking advantage of the cut-price Malts in Tesco?
Really? I'm still cycling in shorts at the minute!
Tell me more about these Tesco bargains.....
Tenner off Dalwhinnie for a start....
Chainsaw fuelled and oiled and ready to go scrumping for fallen trees. Bring it on!
I shall look out the heavy duty waterproofs!
Pffft
I'm planning a 4 hour road ride before work
Neither am I.
News to me.
I'll take a waterproof for tomorrow's post work hill run, or will wind proof be fine?
'tis the second big storm of the season, the first one was a lot further south (Oct 27/28)
Oh, that'll be south of the border I missed that one.
Tenner off Dalwhinnie. ..If I had known that before coming home
Aberlour is £20 at Sainsburys at the minute.
Didnt have you down as an express reader colin.
Oh I dunno. The BBC has a fearsome 34mph forecast for Edinurgh.
€Billions of damage across Europe isn't funny particularly as everyones premium goes up
Or does the border, which is a stupid line on the ground, protect you from that?

"A combination of severe gale force winds, a tidal surge and high astronomical tides are expected on Thursday afternoon"
Nice. Then it is supposed to start snowing all night.
So in times of adverse weather, I shall do the right thing - buy cheap whiskey & sit it out 😉
Meh, I am driving over the Rest and be thankful at midday tomorrow, then spending two days on the beaches in Argyll teaching some beach school / outdoor stuff to toddlers and childminders. What could possibly go wrong?*

I might put a coat on.
Saw a front page headline the other day that said 'Cold snap to last 3 months' or similar.
That'll be the winter then!

You see, that is just the kind of overreaction that the southerners had.
motorman - Memberastronomical tides
That is a ****ing big tide.
Oh, and thanks for the reminder, I need to pop the kite in the car.
They were warning messages on the M56 slip road onto the M6 yesterday about strong winds expected Thursday. Now that's a bit previous...
Ok ok, I'll take a waterproof out tomorrow night.
There was a notice at Haymarket this evening saying the train service would be running a reduced service tomorrow morning because of the wind storm.
Cheers for the Dalwhinnie PSA

Looks like Jura Superstition, Highland Park, Glenmorangie and Talisker are all down to £25 a bottle. Some other bargains too.
Fire up the strava, I hear there's a tailwind...
My Mrs was offered a tub of celebrations from work one of the Dr's who was leaving for his next placement as a thank you. Her boss a consultant offered her a swap for a bottle Jura to give to me as he doesn't like whisky.
The kids enjoyed the celebrations. 🙄
Usually I have a window open a little in the bedroom.
I had to close it last night.
93mph winds recorded at Loch Glascarnoch. Gotta be a Strava segment around there?
Mind breeze round here. Was worse on friday night here - yet the powers flickering.
Casualtys so far - the wheelie bin has blown over ( empty) and an old doors fallen over.
I'm amused by the reporter in Saltcoats on the Beeb
An actually very strong wind in Leeds glad I'm driving to work today.
If I may be serious, for just a second.
Keep safe folks, especially those in coastal flood zones.
I meant that as well, which is unusual.
Doesn't sound very nice out there - think my two boys will be glad to have a day off riding to school
I can report it's quite breezy here in Aberlour. I did tie the trampoline up earlier just in case 😉
It certainly looks and sounds very animated out the window here in Edinburgh.
swavis - did you get the lightning?

I may be working this weekend if it starts flooding in Yorkshire.
Just walked a couple of miles into the office to recover the car and had to clear fallen branches from the lanes. Time to follow GeoffJ's lead.
Blowing a hoolie around the house, the fire and burner have never got going so quickly!
Heading for Cressbrook over the tops later, do I ride or drive, hmmmmmm?
scotroutes
The storm "season" is usually Sept to April but major windstorms can occur at any time. It was a major storm that wiped out the Spanish Armada
swavis - did you get the lightning?
Yeah, just two flashes though but quite impressive as it was so black out there. It has actually been rather stormy. The wind woke the wee lad up at half two this morning and we struggled to get him back off to sleep. Although with it being a north westerly it's really whipping round the house, it sounds a lot worse than it is. The rain was really thumping down on my way to work at 6:30 and the power's been flickering...
Stay safe out there.
