[#3195166]

Hi all,
OK, 2 part question I guess.

I would like to get some photos printed to put on my wall. A few of Laurence CEs pics ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/laurence-ce/sets/72157625389698843/); some of his ones of me, and some other random ones.

Size wise, thinking something between A4 and A3. Thinking just getting the photos printed on photo paper, and then buy a load of this stuff;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Foam-Board-5mm-White-10-x-A3-Foamboard-Core-Sheets-/150604329669?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2310b7b2c5

And then just cut the board to size, and glue the photo to it.

Does that sound like a good plan? Will it look OK? Best (cheapest) place to get photos printed? What glue to use? Hard to get a decent finish when cutting that foam stuff?

And second question, I also have maybe 100 or so photos on my wall, most are standard 4x6s, but some are slightly smaller. Currently held on randomly, with blutak, but photos keep curling or falling off. Any better (simple/cheap) solutions to hold lots of photos on a wall?

Any thoughts would be great.

Ta, Duane.

There are plenty labs who will mount your photos onto foamcore type stuff for you - I had 12 done for my degree show and it ain't cheap! All the materials are acid free and the glue won't leech into your print, ruining it. I'd pay to have it done, rather than try and DIY it.

As for all your wee 6x4s, just do the rounds of charity shops and buy loads of cheap frames for 20p a time!

Sorry, I should have said, I'm trying to do this for as cheap as possible, hence not wanting to just get some made up already on backing.

Have you seen the 9mm thick underlay used under laminate floors. That takes a push pin quite well and you could screw(with a washer) as many sheets of it to the wall as you're likely to cover.

For gluing you should be able to get a can of 'Photo Mount' from most art/camera shops, works really well.

For the pictures you want printing, how about getting some mounts cut for the pictures that you want and stick them to these?

You can get them from framers or from places like this:

http://www.picturelizard.co.uk/PhotoMounts.php?cPath=169_142&ref=6

and they'll also sell you some backing board to stick it all to. That would look pretty good, if done carefully.

With regards to your random photo's.....why not go to an art supplies shop/craft shop & buy some large sheets of card and some spray mount.
You mention some of the photo's have started curling, so for these you might need to press them between some books for a few days to try & straighten them or curl them back the other way carefully.
You can then arrange your photo's how you want, stick them using the spray mount onto the card & then hang the cardboard?

Hi all,

Got some 5mm thick foam board for mounting A3 photos to. If I get photos printed out on proper photo paper, and just pritt stick them to the board, can I expect it to all go horribly wrong? Spray on adhesive was properly expensive!

Do NOT use Spray Mount - use PHOTO Mount.

Spray Mount will bubble and peal quite quickly. Photo Mount (as mentioned earlier) is the one to use as it is more permanent.

And cut out carefully using a sharp scalpel blade (available from art shops like the foam board and Photo Mount.

And ask for A sized Foam Board (NOT Imperial size) so you get no wastage - glue the prints onto the board (4 A4 prints will fit exactly onto an A2 sheet) and then cut them out.

Pritt Stick will do a crap job - it will cause more waste than buying Photo Mount as it will all end up in the bin.
