Struth, someone there is even giving advice on how to attract customers over the internet:
http://www.webmaster-talk.com/relevant-link-exchange-forum/1099-attracting-new-visitors.html
He fails to mention suing MTB forums, or maybe this is a new strategy!
EDIT can't see what he's moaning about "get people to link to you, build a reputation, and the net is yours for the taking"
He'll soon have a reputation, just might not be the one he wanted....
Which Safariquip do you mean, Safariquip - The Travel Equipment and Adventure Gear shop?
Which Safariquip do you mean, Safariquip - The Travel Equipment and Adventure Gear shop?
I meant the one who threatens to sue MTB forums and doesn't understand what a hotlink is, does that clear it up?
Noon is my most best word. I think I might sue Mark for using it several times in his letter without my permission.
I think you'll find he hot linked the word noon and if you remove permission to read you mind, it will disappear from his letter instantly....

I'm so confused, it is [u]my[/u] word. What are these hotlinks you speak of? I must sue!!!
Sue will be along in a minute and have a go at the lot of you for using her name without permission.
Is she hot, if so I could link with her
Well I posted a hotlink to a picture I took without crediting myself. Should I sue?
I think you should sue STW, everyone else is so best get in with the trend before it goes out of fashion....
To be fair he does now suggest that people should beware what they post on Facebook - that if nothing else is good advice (as this exchange will amply demonstrate I'm sure).

That's funny cos I've just linked a hot picture of you.
But that was on a more "specialist" forum... ๐

It's certainly not always practiced on forums but I think ideally the OP should have credited where he got the photos from in his first post.
I don't see why it should be STW's responsibility though.
There's an irony! They were linked from the Edale MR Facebook page as I mentioned when the TV bloke asked, even said that they were not mine. Never even knew they were owned by a third party, perhaps they should speak to EMR and ask them not to make pics available on a public social media platform.
That's very interesting. Do you have a direct link to their facebook page?
Just seen Marks original reply to Julian on facebook. Good work fella!
er, let me Facebook that for you, Mark
(I typed "Edale Mountain Rescue" into the search box on FB)
yes, that I know how to do thanks ๐
I was trying to pin those specific facebook image tags to an account.
As it happens my good friend Julian has already been over to the Edale MR Facebook page to investigate for himself.
No sign of the images on their page, although it's a moot point anyway as NO ONE HAS DONE ANYTHING WRONG!
๐
I don't think there is a way to decipher a FB image URL. I'm getting
as the URL for the first one from the SafariQuip FB page, which is presumably the same source as the ones hotlinked on here given the last bit of the URL is the same, though I don't understand why the first bit is different (I've tried and can't get a URL looking like the ones you're giving for a FB image).
Edit: you asked for a direct link to the FB page - I did wonder why that was so difficult! I can confirm that I can't see the images there either.
Just scoured Edale MR FB Page and they are not there, but they most certainly were 'cos that's where I saw them. Or I could not have linked to them. Weird!!
Maybe Julian made Edale take them down upon threat of legal action for legal stuff.
On the SafariQuip photo comment "Copyright Safariquip Ltd - Share, don't copy!" Good job it is being shared, not copied. It seems they haven't read
If they were there it looks like Edale MR didn't know about it - maybe they were linked in a comment or a now deleted post from EMR who have buckled under the might of SafariQuips legal heavyweights...
BBC Derby ?@BBCDerby 31 Mar@edalemrt Hi. We were told these avalanche pics were yours: http://bit.ly/10mbXic . Do you mind if we use them on the BBC News website?

Interesting to see who's browsing the STW forum ๐
Luke Burstow
Shame that you've chosen to threaten Singletrackworld with legal action because forum users have been hotlinking.I for one will be buying nothing from you and I can imagine there's a lot of posters on Europes largest MTB website (and thus a lot of people who enjoy exactly the sort of activities that you seel equipment for) that will feel the same.

Jeremy Pascoe and Bugs Liddiard like this.
Julian's not going to be happy with [edited]another publication[edited] either...
Edited to make it harder for Julian and his crack team of internet legal experts to track down people who are actually doing what he incorrectly accused rogerthecat of doing. If some unemployed bike riding numpty can find it then I'm sure his top team will be onto them in no time.
Now that is copying...
from the comments;
[i]this article was on Buxton Mountain Rescue Team's website on Saturday, with the same photo....[/i]
All I can find from [url= http://www.buxtonmountainrescue.org.uk/ ]Buxton MRT[/url] is a link to this thread on their Twitter feed posted on the 30th...

Looks like Glossop MRT have some pix that are strikingly similar to 'old Julies.
I have some good friends in Edale MRT if the mods want to find out from them.
I'm sure there are many varied and esoteric arguments to be derived from this, but I'm having trouble getting past 'Some snow slid down a hill, Look!'
Well, I just googled my name and it led me to this page, where I find multiple uses of my name without my permission!!!
Oh, and I also find that apparently I might be a 'hot link' ๐ ๐
Sue
I use noon a lot ๐
I was scratching my head wondering who SafariQuip were, since it sounded so familiar. They're the outdoor shop in Castleton that i bought some batteries from on Saturday. Must have been a quiet Bank Holiday Monday in the shop to want to stir up trouble
Day 1 of injunction watch - nothing to report
anyone tempted to nip in to browse mid ride? Must be pretty muddy up the top of cavedale right now.
I'm interested which specialist forum I'm on now. Should I expect some contact from 'enthusiasts'?
To be fair it's not even Noon yet.
We could set a webcam up pointing at the letterbox
And whilst all of this goes on, the photos are still there on their public FB page and hidden away in the Edale MR page somewhere, hence the hotlinks still work.
I can't see any good coming of this for either party and hope it just fizzles away. I do find it odd though that you can hotlink images willy and indeed nilly without it having copyright repercussions. Is that a sign of the laws not keeping up with or understanding t'internet??
stilltortoise - imagine hotlinking on here as you holding up a magazine in a pub and showing your friends a picture in it.
They haven't paid to see it but neither have you copied it so no law is broken.
If you photocopied the picture and gave them each a copy to take home then that would be bad.
As above, the irony is that the bloke makign the fuss still hasn't either moved the images or stopped hotlinking to them - it's all entirely in his control.
