How did they get him ?

Ecuador withdrew his diplomatic immunity and invited the Met in to arrest him.

Tweet from Ecuadorian president:

In a sovereign decision Ecuador withdrew the asylum status to Julian Assange after his repeated violations to international conventions and daily-life protocols.

Which one? I thought Swedish charges had lapsed, so it's extradition hearing for the US which involves the death penalty so long drawn out case, Australia just called an election so ministerial support from there just got interesting

From my now closed duplicate thread...

Makes you think, etc…

Here’s hoping they can finally clear away all that mess round the back of the Corner Shop now at least!

Which one?

Jumping UK bail for a start, I guess?

Maybe he'll just be set free and wonder what he's spent 7 years evading. I think, for me, that would be the best solution - 'man lives in cupboard for 21000+days for no reason at all'.

point is he'll have been through a court and legal process.

Swedish charges are all dropped.

the only thing he can be charged with is breach of bail in the UK. gonna be some interesting legal arguments over that.
convention says he cannot be extradited to the US a) because what the US want to charge him with is not necessarily a crime here and B) because of the potential death penalty

I am sure the americans will try tho

Whats happening to the cat?

so it’s extradition hearing for the US which involves the death penalty so long drawn out case

Well there is the jumping bail to answer for in the UK. As for the US. Time to see if there are any facts behind the claims. Although what would the death penalty apply for?

He had white or very fiar hair already, the unkempt beard and facial expression make him look a lot worse.

Lawyer for his alleged victim:

The statue of limitations for the rape allegation against Assange expire in August 2020. Until then we will continue to fight for Assange to be extradited to Sweden and prosecuted for rape.

Although what would the death penalty apply for?

The leaks surrounding the Chelsea Manning case were the ones charges were severe enough to have it on the table, though the BBC has confirmed the only open charges are jumping bail which is what he is being processed for.

Will be interesting to see how his involvement in the Clinton/Democrats email release plays out

He will be charged in the UK with breaking bail. Hopefully he will be deported back to his homeland (Oz) where the US are more than happy to try to get him. I suspect that he will not be allowed into any other countries and airlines will be reluctant to transport him.

Ironically enough had he faced a rape trial in Sweden and be convicted he would have had far better conditions to live in and would have already been out. The US would have been unable to get at him in Sweden - since what the US have accused him is not a crime in Sweden (like the UK) and it has the potential of the death penalty hence they would have refused to send him (like the UK).

Too much of this has Assange believing in his own myth.

daily-life protocols.

used the communal butter one too many times and never bought one himself. Be warned students, if you don't play fair this could happen to you.

My god! That beard is awful. I’d be ashamed to be arrested / extradited with that.

The US can charge people, but keep the charges secret until after they are arrested (and then close the court hearings and keep all the evidence secret too).

But to physically charge him they will need him extradited. I'd be happy to see him face the crimes in Sweden but a trip to the US is a bit too much. The process there is now highly political - I would love to see any emails he has from Trump's friends though 😉

He's been further arrested on a US extradition warrant as well as breach of bail now.

So does that mean his life is in the hands of this bloke?

Of so, I predict a massive backdown and some underhand “special relationship” drinks parties on Expenses (obvz)

7 years in a room and in the end you've achieved nothing? Its like most males adolescence.

I reckon that beard was part of a disappearance plan/disguise. Die that and his hair a dark shade and sneak out at night, (because IIRC the 5-0 stopped having a 24 hour watch on the place some years ago) just didn't do it soon enough.

agreed, javid isnt too bothered about the rule of law (see begham case) when theres some political capital to be made

if hes being extradicted for simply publishing the leaks that is a very dangerous precednt to set

if the americans have more than that on him, then fair enough

There's an angle in the whole wikileaks saga that I'm surprised no one has investigated...

The role of Sweden's Foreign Minister Carl Bildt

Bildt of Freedom?

and his time in Bosnia with Christopher Geidt, who went on to become Private Secretary to the head of state of 4 of the 5 Eyes countries...

Geidt's wide open
