Anybody tried that (since Asda switched to EE)? Thinking of buying a cheap s/h smartphone, and the locked ones are rather cheaper than unlocked.

Always are
As far as I know if bought legit then you can have it un locked but only once
so should have no problems.

Ask first if an ASDA sim will work in an Orange phone. Orange are renowned for being utter PITA in that department.

According to http://ukmobilecoverage.co.uk/network/asda, asda uses Vodafone network.

Er, that's what I was asking I thought. Anybody have any idea?

popstar - that website is out of data, Asda mobile switched networks to EE a few months ago, as I wrote in the OP.

grantway - I'm looking at buying a cheap s/h phone, so don't think I can get it unlocked without significant outlay (note I'm trying to do this extremely cheaply, and the unlocked version of what I'm after is almost twice the price).
