Just got back from a quick test drive and confirm that it is still a great drive and that nothing fell off or sounded wobbly. So far, so good!

Was watching one of the police shows and one of the cases was of a modified car. Modified really really badly, not like yours at all, but still a modification as far as the cop was concerned.

So led me to wonder if , now you've customized it , was there any laws you needed to adhere to, or contact the dvla to let them know of any changes to the original shape.

Im thinking insurance wise.

When I had things on the road that didn't look legal it was:

1 comply with construction and use regulations

2  MOT

3 specialist insurance broker with full disclosure.

Over four or five years I had around 20 police officers pull me over to kick the tyres look at the papers and then send me on my way.

Looking at the mods the lighting looks within regs but there's a glaring fail on the sharp edges and pedestrian impact section of the regs. The air dam is desiged to cut off feet and sever tibias. I think some of those cops that stopped me might have known that section of the regs. Just saying like.

The rules are a fun area of interpretation.

They are clear of things light lights which have to be a certain height, distance apart, beam pattern etc

The rules about sharp edges and things like that, so the and I'm cutting the feet off. Is a bit more vague. If I was selling the car or producing the car commercially, then yeah, I would have loads of regs that you don't have to comply with. If this is a modification, those don't apply. What happens is it becomes an interpretation. Is there loose or dangerous bodywork that could injure pedestrians?

This interpretation is so vague it is ridiculous. On a perfectly legal car, the wheel arch could injure pedestrians because it's got an edge on it. But it is legal. You could have the Rolls Royce Silver Lady - that's clearly illegal, but it's not. It's just removed for aerodynamics.

The end result is the police might choose to pull you over for something like that if you're driving like a dick, but 99% of the time they don't care. It's the same as running a car with black and silver number plates when it's not the right age. They will add it to the list of things they've got you for, they are very unlikely to pull you over just for that.

The next bits I'm going to be working on are:

  • The wheel arch liners so I don't soak the electrics with wheel spray
  • The headlights surround so they don't look quite so awkward
  • I'm going to put on a fuel cap cover, so that the local oiks don't just nick my fuel cap

Watch the YT vids to see how I get on with that, um, like, subscribe and all that jazz.

Is it wrong to mention these panel gaps!? ... 😬

Panel gaps - Nope. You are completely right to point them out. That side hasn't been gapped, the other side is better. The bonnet also needs fitting tighter against the front wings. This is the other side before being undercoated. It also isn't bolted at the bottom which it why it sticks out a bit, but the gap to door is pretty even (by my standards)

Don't worry about pointing out faults, I either have a plan, haven't spotted them, or don't care. Your comments will fit into one of those 3 categories and I appreciate them all.

Finished work early for the last day of the year and took the DS911 out for no reason other than enjoyment.

Boy, did it deliver!

Whislt 'making good progress' but within reasonable sight of speed limits it is excellent. It sounds a bit strange but it is the closest thing I have driven to the Honda Integra Type-R DC2 I owned, if fact the only car I have ever wned from new. The responses are immediate and feedback is clear. The tyres are a bit thuddy on broken roads but they areabout twice the width of the Type-Rs. Much fun and nothing fell off or rattled - even the new magnetic fuel cap cover worked (see next YT vid)

I stopped at B&Q for a light switch, which was my original excuse for the 60 mile trip, and when I came out there was abunch of Yoofs around the car. I was a little concerned but walked forward with a confident 'Hello' while wishing I had bought an ax instead of a light switch. They ask what iot was and I explained it was a Porsche that I ****ed over because while I love the way the drive, I don't like their looks. There was a slight pause. Followed by what I hope was praise, but I am not down with street right now. Cool As, You got balls, it is shit, but you got balls. N'ah, that is cool shit, who else does that to a Porsche etc etc etc

I didn't get stabbed but was offered a puff on what I assume was a joint but explained I had to get home in time for The Archers

Just found out that it is the Porsche GB Owners club Christmas meeting up the road in Farnborough.

It would be rude not to pop in and say hello, right?

Do it! Be prepared for a lot of snobby remarks, but there should also be a few folk liking it.

I think it looks good and I think it'll look better yet with a respray so it is all 1 colour.

Enjoy the visit and know you'll be making several people's toes curl. 👍

It was a good meet. There was only 1 negative comment about ruining an original Porsche, but that was countered but the guy with him asking about the GT3 kit and stickers all over that original commentors own car. Everyone else was nice. Lots said they couldn't think why I would do it, and wouldn't do it to their car but they liked the idea and appreciated my efforts. I took it as surprisingly positive and a nice bunch of people.

Sorry but I agree with him.
What you have done is admirable but I'll never get past the fact that you hacked a 911 up in pursuit of your project.
Well done for keeping at it though 👍🏻

Sorry but I agree with him.

and I have no issue with that. Life would be dull if everyone was identical.

I was bored and it seemed a fun project. I didn't use a special or desirable Porsche and have all the original panels in the attic so can reverse the whole thing if I want to.

Who left the party?

I am not sure how many subscribers I have but I care about each of yoiu personally. Also, if yoiu are the bitch who left me then I will nail frozen sausages in your lawn while pissing on your shoes!

🙂  Yes, I did just rediscover the statistics button and got a bit over excited

The 914 was pretty undesirable not so long ago and now they're loads of money!

Glad you've got the bits.... Might make a nice project 😉

Bore score?  This is what is sounds like on a coild start up.

At least it gives me the excuse to get the engine enhanced to 4.1 by Hartech, once I sell a few more paintings to pay for it.

Not good news.

The whole car build has had to stop due to mediacal reasons. I appear to have suddenly I've become seriously allergic to epoxy resin and possibly some other chemicals. I'm not quite sure what yet. I'm waiting on the results.

This means that despite being 3-4 weekends away from finishing the project, I'm not allowed to touch it. I tested this by mixing up 30 grammes of epoxy resin just to skim the front air dam, and my face blew up like a balloon again.

I'm not sure what to do. I've got a car 3-4 weeks from completion that I cannot move forward one day. I still can't keep the car as it is. It just doesn't look right and it's clearly got finished. I've got between £1,500 and £2,000 worth of carbon fibre, epoxy resin, gel coat, etc. sat in the garage. I can't go near it.

So in summary, I'm ****ed, and the whole car is stopped.

Updates will follow when I think of some way out of this.

If you look at the picture, I need to skim the air down. Make some headlight moulds, and then do the edges on the body to a bit of reinforcement. As I said, three or four weekends work but I cannot do them. Not a happy bunny.

Not much happening as I cannot do any work BUT...

...I have found someone willing to complete the last of the CF and Epoxy work that I cannot do, in exchange for the CF, resins, tools etc that I have left in the garage. This is good news, because it gets the car finished. It also gets rid of about £1,500 worth of equipment and materials that I have in my garage and should leave me with a few quid back in my pocket. Unfortunately, he can't actually start this until April.

While that's happening, I sent the car to a Porsche electric specialist to plug in their PIWIS system that will reset the error codes so it recognises that I've got LEDs in the xenons. This has been a couple of weeks, and the guy is saying he can't get the sidelight warnings  turned off. I've taken in some resistors to fake the current draw, but I haven't heard back from him as to whether he sitted them. Being a bit concerned, I might go out there and actually sort it out myself.

Your post has also pumped me to realise I haven't uploaded the "Do I Have To Abandon It?" episode on to YouTube. I'll put some update bits on the end of that and post that up over the weekend, I think.

Keep picking away at it, WCA.
I had only watched the first one or two videos, but then caught up in the last fortnight or so.

Your tenacity and determination to just crack on & get it done is very inspiring! I look at a problem & think before I can solve it, I need to do x, then y, then z and then back round to a, b & c. Stuff never gets done because I sweat the small stuff too much.
I think you are absolutely bonkers, but really admire the way you are getting it done & fixing problems along the way.

Sorry to hear about the allergy issue you have ended up with. Hopefully you will get a resolution & the car will soon be finished.
The headlights sound like a right pain.

Fully agree with stumpy.

I hope it all works out for you.
