[Closed] Are there any genuine hawkers coming to front doors?

I'm completely ignorant with regards to this but was taught by my old ma never to do business with Hawkers -guys knocking on your door with rucksacks of gear to flog. They usually carry some sort of ex offenders paperwork, they usually look a bit chav and the one i had today said his piece and then I politely said I didnt do any business on my doorstep... he then looked at me like i was dirt and mutter about only trying to do a sh!tty sales job and wondered off in a strop... he was English.

Are these gangs of guys? are they actually genuine or run as small gangs from travellers or something more sinister? are they scamming houses for empty properties or? come on, dish the dirt.
