Are decorators paid commission by the paint manufacturers?
I know many boiler fits get commission from the boiler manufacturer. Effectively they are also the salesperson.

I was wondering because every deorator I've come across says they want to use Dulux. During a particularly dull tea break at work colleagues got talking about paint. Everyone was in agreement that Dulux is not what it used to be. I'd say it was pretty awful these days. Yet decorators seem to want to use it. Do they get a discount when buying it? Or commission for selling it??

Just had a room done in pink. It's taken 4 coats to go over magnolia??!

Homebase paint came out the best in tea break "what paint ratings" in case anyone is interested. Anyway it's Christmas eve. I should be drinking....

The Dulux paint you buy from B+Q et al is not the same stuff you can buy from a Dulux Decorating Centre.
And, it'll be cheaper direct from Dulux with an account, for a better quality product.

Dulux and Crown and pretty equally good in their Trade guise, there are other makes as good too, but not so common - the stuff from Brewers is as good (cant remember the trade name).

Dulux trade paint is cheaper than some brands and the coverage is good - so if your working on price it makes sense .. I've never heard of commission pertaining to brand usage .. It definitely sucks using generic cheapo paint when there's a lot do be done .

I'd imagine most decorators like dulux because it's a brand that customers trust.

My understanding is that trade paint is a different formulation so that decorators can thin it according to the application.

Retail dulux is good stuff. Goes on nicely straight from the tin and covers really well. By contrast, something like homebases own paint is horrendous to work with.

A) I doubt it

B) have you asked for a revised quote if you supply the paint?

They'll get paint from a trade counter cheaper than you will, and will prefer a type of paint/supplier.

You could do as mattyfez says above, but you'll look like a dick. And if you buy the paint from BnQ or Homebase, it'll end up costing more in the long run, as it's shite paint and will require more coats.

Most will have a preference for a brand and will get a discount at one trade shop. Discount only works if they buy lots so will want to buy all from one place.
