Trying to get a mortgage/remortgage/additional borrowing to fund some house renovations. My current bank was fully onboard until they found out that I work overseas and have decided that I'm not UK resident and so am ineligible for any lending. Slightly confused by this as I am very definitely UK resident by any test there is, and still fill out self-assessment forms for HMRC and pay tax to HMRC.

I tried a local mortgage broker type place with similar results - all onboard until about 3 weeks in when the guy I was speaking to suddenly went on an unannounced and long-term sabbatical and everyone in that office says I'm his client and I have to wait until he's back at work.

All very strange.

So can anyone recommend someone/somewhere that might be able to help me out?
