I'm coming from a Garmin and I can't seem to find the screen which simply shows the direction to head in order to follow a route or locate a geocache
I must be missing something obivous!

you are - read the manual?
mines discharged atm and I haven't ridden for 9 months, but I think it is just the bottom right button - toggle round 'til you find the routes menu and then select the route you want to follow.

I've got one. I regard it as a PITA.
Maybe if I used it more, I'd get used to it...
Definitely an RTFM job.
