Anyone on Blood Pressure meds?

Ramipril and amlodipine no side effects I can think of other than being knackered in the evening but I think it's other things that cause that

Mine measured 150/92 on a 24 hour cuff end of November, started on Ramipril (and bought a blood pressure cuff) last Thursday, has dropped a bit but dunno how much is drugs, how much is exercise and diet. Zero side effects so far.

Many BP meds have side effects, but that varies a lot between individuals. If you get something difficult to tolerate your GP can try alternative types to get something that works best for you.

I found Ramipril gave me a dry tickly cough that disappeared when I was put on another med.

i take Tildiem.    not for high blood pressure but as a bit of a safeguard to deal with permanent AF.

no issues with cycling.

I didn't get on Ramipril - sleep was disrupted with sweats, my mood was awful and I felt angry a lot, tired.

I was moved onto Losartan and it just works with no side effects in can tell.

I'm on Candessarten for the same reason and don't suffer any side effects thankfully

When I was taking Ramipril the doctor refused to believe it was causing my persistent cough. I got tested for asthma and had 2 1/2 out of three symptoms for an asthma diagnosis. After my heart attack I got different meds and the cough disappeared.
Not all medicines work for everybody and some have side effects.

That’s a bit embarrassing - Ramipril Cough is a very well known phenomenon.

Been on Lorsatan for ~5 months now… Don’t feel any side effects from it.

On ramipril for 6 months and no side effects so far.  No other risk factors beyond genetics. Doctor has repeatedly checked if I've got "the cough" and not yet.  I'm possibly a little slower to recover from hard efforts but whilst I'd like to blame that on meds it's a tough sell :0)

I wouldn't call 140/90 pretty high, slightly raised maybe and within scope of white coat syndrome. Try 235/130! I'm on amlodipine and ramipril and its down to your figures now. Get yourself a bpm and check at home as well as at the docs.

No real side effects so far.

Ramapril and Bisoprolol here after a couple of heart attacks. Have had the ramapril dose halved due to my BP being too low but apart from disturbed sleep I haven't had any more side effects.

Ramipril - Permanent cough for 3 years... move to Losartin this year... no side effects.

Amlodopene - Swollen ankles within days - Moved to Indapamide ... no side effects.

Amlodipine - swollen ankles. Would have bulges above the cuffs of my socks. Not painful but looked horrible.
Changed to Losartan and swelling went away. No other noticeable side effects.

Been on Ramipril for 6yrs with no side effects. I check BP at home every month or so  with an annual at the docs.

6ft, 78 kgs.  Decent diet.  Lots of exercise.  Discovered I had high blood pressure when I went to have a vasectomy.

Went on Ramipril for a while.  Did nothing to help.  No side effects.  Doc said to stay on them anyway as they are good for the heart.   Then went to Indapimede.  Did nothing.  Then went to Amlopodine which helped a lot but came with fat ankles.

Got referred to hospital to see why I have HBP even though it runs in family.  Have had 2 or 3 different scans on heart and kidneys.  Turns out I've got a horseshoe kideny which can cause HBP.

Now take all 3.  Might see if I can drop the first 2 althouggh Indapimede is meant to counter the fat ankles.

BP used to be 165-170 over 90 odd for a fair few years so was put on increasingly larger dose of Ramipril, then they gave me the under the tongue spray as well  to help with the angina and shortness of breath a couple of years ago. Had triple bypass August '23  - reduced dose of Ramipril to 2.5mg from 10mg, can't remember if I was already on Bisoprolol but the doses of that are now 3.75mg up from 2.5mg and no spray any more. Don't get anywhere near as out of breath nowadays and last BP was 127 over 70 something. With my type 2 diabetes, arthritis etc, I'm not in the best of health but feel a hell of a lot better than I did before.

TBH I wouldn't go on meds with those readings.

Mine even on meds are 170/120.

Is that tested or at home ?

I do shift work so have a health check each year. My blood pressure is always 140/ 90 ish.

Went to doctors  who took a high reading told to take readings for 2 weeks at home all normal

I get that, even when I worked IN GP surgerys every day. 🙂 24 hour BP cuff usually gives a lower reading. 🙂

I'm on Lercanidipine and Candessartan. Tried a few before they found one that actually worked or didnt bring on side effects (cough / swollen ankles etc).

It may take a few goes before they find the right choice for you so be patient (ahem)

Ramipril since 2007 for me! Never had any issue with side effects. Currently 10mg once a day.

That's not high.  For a period of time mine went up to 155/168 or even higher but was still sub 200 on both.  200 is the cardiac arrest zone as I was told.  I did feel a bit of pressure on the chest / heart for a while.  Still I didn't want to take medication but my GP insisted.  So I just took my GP advice but requested the lowest dosage.  I remember I managed to bright my BP down to "normal" again with my traditional herbal drink but I just didn't keep up the routine and it went up again.

Currently on 5mg Amlodipine after GP insistence.  My BP is 80/130 now (just had a check with GP nurse last week). I am sure there is side effect but just not sure if it is related to medication. i.e. feet and hand feel cold and left leg get tingling feeling (not numb) a lot of the time.

My GP told me that 5mg Amlodipine was the lowest but I think I can go 2.5mg ... let's see .,,

7.5mg Ramipril daily.

Had no idea that 'Ramipril Cough' is a thing but I do sometimes wake myself up at night coughing. I'm going to keep an eye on it now, although it's only sporadic.

A friend had HBP but didn't do anything about it, and then had a stroke in March. He's still far from recovered, and may never do so 100%.

I've just started on 2.5mg of Ramipril.  No sides yet, but also my blood pressure has not dropped a noticeable amount.

It is right on the border line of high-normal and high.

Ramipril. Dry cough and dames cramps for first week of two, then totally fine after.

Did exact what it was meant too bringing BP down. Feel much better with than off. Can cycle off without issue if I am:

Stress free, not much going on with little work to do, bank balance is high, daily sauna, healthy diet, 3x rides a week, no alcohol, the sun is out and I'm not married ?

Ramipril gave me back ache.  If you read the bumf in the packet that is actually a known side effect.  Candesartan is fine for me.

Not at the minute but I expect to be in the near future, just had a txt from the docs and sent them a reading of 129/95 which was in the red on my mother's machine. 5'8", 11 stone and not aware of family history of high blood pressure

Ramipril, aspirin, atvorstatin and bisoprolol. Stents in 4 coronary arteries but no meds side affects!

After my palpitations incident in January (HR suddenly spiked to 195 watching TV, BP around 160/90), I was given Bisoprolol 5mg. After around 45 minutes, I literally felt my BP drop - like a big sigh of relief. It's now around 110/70

Been on BP meds for many years, despite only being 53 now.

Bendroflumethazide worked but gave me a floppy willy and my wife (eventually) complained.

Amlodipine gave me swollen ankles and so I changed to ramipril.

Was on ramipril 5mg daily when I went to A&E to check my shoulder after going OTB, shoulder fine but "let's do your obs while you're here..." BP was 220/160 ish. They did let me go home as it came down a touch under 200 after some rest, so long as I promised to go to the GP next day.

Ramipril increased to 10mg daily. Some weeks later, I realised my mood had gone utterly flat when I noticed I wasn't, well, anything on one of my favourite rides.

Now back to 5mg ramipril and added 2.5mg indapamide; BP is lower and more stable than it has been since the start of treatment 🙂

No effect on riding etc, I was pretty rubbish before and still am! My HR is low compared to the 220-age type formulas, but then it was back in my 20s, too, so can't blame the meds for that.

Lercanipine and Losartan.

Tried various combinations until got the ones with no side effects. Suspect they start with the cheapest and work their way up.

Been on them for a few years now. No problems as yet
