For those left up there, who doesn't give a damn, who isn't bothering?

If so perhaps some other places to live

I very nearly didn't vote, the mainstream options available to me illicit no trust or favour. In the end I ticked the box of the candidate most likely to get the least votes as a protest option.

The only blurb I've had through my letter box this year has been from UKIP. I've no idea who my current MP is or what party they represent.

I think we all have an obligation to vote - if we have the opportunity.

If for no other reason than to show that we are grateful for a democratic process.

Voted, but it won't get back to the UK in time as it only arrived in Australia yesterday. Still, perhaps it will count towards a statistic somewhere

I find it sooo depressing that people are too lazy to vote.

Only if there's a none of the above option. Otherwise, it would undemocratic imo.

I'm not voting.

No party stands up to scrutiny.
None are for an improvement in the issues I feel are important. (climate change, over population)
My MP has a 40% majority - so my vote will be a waste.
None will create a fair voting system.
Whoever you vote for, you will end up with a coalition.

Votes in 2010 general election:
- 10.7m Tories
- 8.6m Labour
- 6.8m LibDems
- 15.9m NON VOTERS

cynic-al, there is lazy and there is rational. Rationally my vote is worthless due to the way the system works.

If I was in a marginal seat it would be worth something, but that still assumes there is someone worth voting for.

Make the system proportional and allow a box for "none of the above" which counts and ensure you actually need a big majority to win, then it would be better.

We should also get their manifesto checked out by something like trading standards - otherwise its just pointless promises that cant be paid for or fulfilled.

So 15.9m voters didn't find anyone worth voting for.

We need better politicians/parties, not forced voting.

you could vote for none of the above but thinking your vote doesn't matter isn't true.

“On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people.”

“Odd,” said Arthur, “I thought you said it was a democracy.”

“I did,” said Ford. “It is.”

“So,” said Arthur, hoping he wasn’t sounding ridiculously obtuse, “why don’t the people get rid of the lizards?”

“It honestly doesn’t occur to them,” said Ford. “They’ve all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they’ve voted in more or less approximates to the government they want.”

“You mean they actually vote for the lizards?”

“Oh yes,” said Ford with a shrug, “of course.”

“But,” said Arthur, going for the big one again, “why?”

“Because if they didn’t vote for a lizard,” said Ford, “the wrong lizard might get in.”

Quite. My constituency is red rosette on a donkey territory, so my vote makes no immediate difference whatsoever. It's possible that growing support for my preferred party could make a difference over time, I suppose.

I only do it out of a misplaced sense of civic duty.

My constituency was Tory for 100 years. We've recently had lib dems in. This year it is a pretty close 3 horse race. Its a slow process but it does change.

Me. It's fair to say that there is very little chance of the tories getting in here 😆

I didnt ..... Purely because i forgot to do my postal vote before i left and im now in oz.

So apathy strikes again. Clearly no party gee'd me up enough to remember to vote for them 3 weeks ago.

Me. But then that's because I've been disenfranchised - I can't vote in the UK elections as I haven't lived there in the past 19 years (fair enough) but then I can't vote in the Spanish ones, either 🙁

Still, if a CON-UKIP coalition manages to force the UK out of the EU I'll probably end up getting dual nationality, which would at least sort that problem out!

There are lots of constituencies - probably a large majority - where voting is (almost) a complete waste of time because there is no chance of the safe seats changing hands. I've moved to one of them recently, though am still registered at my previous address which is marginal (and where I did vote).

please vote - at the moment there is a real risk that the toxic SNP can start wagging the dog. The SNP will not be good for anyone. I see a ConLab coalition coming..

Me. Really cant see the point when there, in my eyes no 'real' difference between all of them . We all have a choice, which I am thankful for, but with all the bickering on here, on TV, on radio , seems to blight any sensible decision to go and vote. And its my sons 12th birthday.

If everyone who CBA'ed to vote, got out and voted for a minority party (Greens, UKIP, SWP whoever). It would throw a proper scare into the present government of P.P.E University debating club chums and we may start getting some non-lizard MP's being put forward for next time.
MPs we could respect what a novelty (Business people, Doctors, Squaddies even Teachers )

So you're saying that even though the SNP might have virtually all of the MPs in the UK's second biggest country, they should have no say in how the union is run?

I will not be as I am away and missed the chance to vote postal vote / vote by proxy due to short notice.

I was going to spoil the ballet paper anyway as "none of the above" vote.

Where i live, if you added all the votes cast for labour, lib dem & ukip together they still wouldn't match the conservative tally, so pretty understandable why people wouldn't bother making the trip to the polling station.

Hoping that one day we will get real democracy to give me a real voice 🙁

I voted. I was going to write "none of the above", but there was an independent standing who didn't seem too daft so I voted for him. It might at least mean he doesn't lose his deposit.

It won't effect the overall result anyway as the SNP will walk it

I would like to, I really would. I wish I could look at a candidate and think 'now there's someone worth voting for, there's someone with passion and a great orator'. Unfortunately I look at the leaders and I see a toff, a prefect, a lapdog, a bigot, Jimmy Krankie and a mild Aussie woman. None of them have any real grasp of commerce or industry, or how them average person lives.

If you had real democracy, you still get a Tory.

Me. I have only ever voted once in my life and when I did it was for Tony Blair. I think it best that I never vote again.

I've always tended to vote lib-dem..
My mate's mum usually stands for the lib-dems in our local elections and in the past she would regularly supply us with a couple of demijohns of her foul but potent experimental home made wine when our giros ran out towards the end of the week..

That's grass roots politics right there.. Helping the needy on the frontline direct from her own pockets.. You don't get that sort of integrity from the other parties..

Obvs she's turned her back on the yellow bellies after Cleggs betrayal so this year I will be voting bollocks
