[#2969809]

I'm fairly new here, so this topic may have been covered before, but I thought I'd give it a go anyway..

I drive a VW Bora 1.8T, I won't bore you with the full spec, of course it's re-mapped, few performance bits and pieces, I had it resprayed in March last year, it was silver and it's now a grey.

So, here it is.

[img] [/img]

On the Nurburgring Nordschleife last year

[img] [/img]

And it's practical, with the Bikes.

[img] [/img]

So, what have you got? 😀

So you're saying you're not into cars? 😉 Sorry I was being an even bigger prick than usual - I like that Bora.

Currently rocking a VW Fox, Merc S65 and a RRS.

Welcome and prepare for a lot of willy-waving by middle aged IT consultants (like every other thread)

I happen to think that Bora looks really rather nice.

I am into my cars, very much so. To the point where I recently got ride of mine.

Wow, thanks for the Barryboys link 🙄

I was kind of hoping to get a decent thread going, a lot of people are genually into their cars and I thought it would be nice to see if some people have similar interests to me, aside from bikes..

Like the look of that Thule thing. How does it mount to the car?

Same here. It's looking up for paupers though. Lots of performance cars prices seem to be dropping massively. Almost dropped enough to make the prospect of a weekend 7 palatable...

Get some pressed german-style plates and it'll be a rolling VAG cliche.

Sorry, dull FWD middle-management saloons on big wheels don't do a lot for me.

Onto the tow bar, it's a detachable, so once the neck is removed you can't see it at all 😀 .

Hmmm, that makes saloons a lot more do-able for me. Have a hatch for ease of loading the bikes up, but that looks pretty damn good.

Yeah it works really well. It only takes a few minutes to fit the towball, fit the rack and load the bikes, a lot easier than removing wheels to fit them inside the car, and I keep all my seats.

It's a Westfalia towbar, I'd really recommend it, and the Thule rack.

Don't bother trying on here, you'll be shouted down as fast as you can reply, cars are just not PC in these woods.

Hi, welcome to the forum, liking that, good ride height and I like the stretched tyres. not exactly a car but here's my rolling VAG cliche parked outside my middle aged middle management house (paper boy delivering my Guardian just out of shot ) :

loads of room for bikes, camping gear, friends, all rear seats are quick release, all wipes clean , not chipped or owt but the red makes it look fast.

Isn't it a shame a car conversation almost immediately results in accusations of the OP being a chav.

It's as narrow minded as those threads on Pistonheads referring to all cyclists as lentil-eating hippy do gooders that should all be run off the road for not paying road tax.

Wasn't sure what kind of reaction I'd get, but ahh well.

Liking the T4 redted, we're borrowing a T5 for when we head to Morzine next week, they're great capable vans.

Deadlydarcy, an array of stuff - I could go into loads of detail, but I don't think that'll go down too well here, lets just say it's got a few layers of wax on it 🙂

jackthedog, thanks for being more open minded.

Would like to be more into cars, but actually driving the damn things tends to suck away all the cash for faffing with them. Midlife/mid management bimmer estate here.

That and bikes are SOO much more instant than cars and you can actually push them past your/their limits without killing someone or bankrupting yourself.

The missus wants an MX5 though, so that's a start...

That all depends on the hour, the day and more importantly the time of the month.
We clearly have two problems here, someone who knows something about cars and wants to talk enthusiastically rather than cutting and pasting from the catalogues, and more importantly a girlie. A real girlie with hair and everything.
I would think that it's the girlie element that is more intimidating than anything.
Nice car btw, but wouldn't something a little easier to park and with more space for the shopping be better, love? 😉

There was a thread a while back on people's car histories - you might enjoy reading that.

I've even found it for you:

Anyone interested in historic racing ? I just found this on the web.

[img] [/img]

That's my brother, Steve Phillips, with his 1594cc Lotus twin cam Escort in the paddock at Silverstone in April 1977.
Steve died just over a year after that photo was taken, he was 26, I was 15.
I used to get taken to Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Mallory Park etc. at weekends as pit crew.

OP: Thats the biggest waste of money since Orange sold a low-spec bike for £2500 and called it a "5"

****!! Graham, how did it all go wrong?

He broke his leg in an unfortunate, low speed, minor motorbike crash and died of a blood clot two weeks later.
That's his Mk1 Cortina tow car behind in the picture.
The Escort was painted in Ford's blue & white colour scheme, but there was some dispute with the guy who painted it, which is why the "Paint and bodywork by" signwriting was blanked out on the rear wing.

I've just noticed he's got Esso Uniflow and Duckhams Q stickers on there, two rival oil manufacturers.
According to the website where I found the picture, he was taking part in the Esso Uniflow challenge, it was probably a condition of entry that all cars had to display the official sticker.
Some motoring related companies would pay a reward to any driver who was pictured in a magazine with one of their stickers, which would probably explain the Duckhams and other stickers, as he wasn't sponsored or supported in any way.

Cranberry, if you resized that down from 4750x3130, it would load a bit faster. 😀

What's the military style jerry can lockers doing on a civilian
Land Rover ?
