[Closed] Anyone heard of a "gun step"?

In mum n dads house one of the steps is bigger than the rest. Local know all says "oh yes its a gun step, lots of old houses have them. When a burglar comes in with his gun drawn he trips up stairs and disarms himself"
This sounds plausible but i want him to be wrong!! Anyone heard of such a thing, Google hasn't?

Odds of house being robbed by a gunman- slim.
Odds of legitimate user of step falling on face- significant.

Yep. Gunstep.
Had one in the house in which I was born.
can be short or tall, has same effect of making you stumble if you're not familiar with it.

Odds of legitimate user of step falling on face

Extremely insignificant. Once you know you're house you know it.

Dunno. I think i heard it on Danny Baker's 5Live programme a couple of weeks ago. IIRC there is an 'odd' step at Brammell Lane (maybe) which often sends non-regulars flying... from there the discussion went on to stair cases in houses.

My dad (architect) always joked that the best way to get rid of your [insert random relative] was to put a book under the carpet of a step near the top of the stairs. The longer drop after it upsets your balance and you all down the stairs! Just remember to remove the book after the event.
OP - no it's just a dodgy set of stairs.

I've heard them called trip steps, and believe they originate from medieval castles.

Edit: Wikipedia thing on "Trick/Stumble steps"

Bramall ๐Ÿ˜ก

Can't say I've noticed it, but that's not saying it isn't there.

I've heard of Trip Steps too but was under the impression that they were shorter, rather than taller, than the rest of the steps to cause a thief running down the steps to trip and fall. We got told about this during a walking tour of Edinburgh (I think whilst visiting the Writers' Museum).
