Can anyone solve this equation?

Change the subject of the equation to R.
1 over R = 1 over x + 1 over y

is your formula supposed to say:

[s]1/R = 1/r +1/r?

In which case it would be:

1/R = 2/r

r = 2R

R = r/2[/s]

ah, you've edited

1/R = 1/x + 1/y
1/R = (x+y)/xy
R = xy/(x+y)

1/R = 1/x + 1/y

R = 1/(1/x + 1/y)
