It’s just been pointed out to me how much axl looks like ian Beale..

I have a theory that all men over 50 morph into Ian Beale.

Why the need to excuse sub par performances with caveats of good for age, etc.

GnR have been know for their erractic performances since the beginning. It’s nothing new.

I forgot how, despite the low slung Les Paul “rock” style, when there is anything complex to play Slash lifts the guitar up into what is basically a Classical guitar position. How does he hold it there though? Les Paul’s aren’t light and he’s using his hands to play, not hold guitars up.

GNR - shite, couldn't hear Axl
Lana Del Ray - didn't bother watching as last time she played Glasto she was shitting herself and it was crap.
Christine and the Queens. Boring sameness
FBS - yeah, he's honed his craft.
Leftfield - no newer stuff. I've done the older albums to death

I'm going bed. I think I'm getting old.

I need to trawl through the earlier/other stage stuff. Last year I discovered Confidence Man & Amyl and the Sniffers.

Axl seems to need new batteries. Also: is his facelift from the same mould as trump’s?

Erm I think Axl should stop now.  Fabulous music but his comedy high pitched voice is a bit grim.  It would be better if he mimed.

FBS dropping Maxi and Faithless into the mix was an awesome moment.

GnR are superb, if you're tuning in for great vocals then you are wasting your time - it has been this way since day one all those years ago.

Enjoyed GnR. Better than AM yesterday as a spectacle IMO.

Expected dodgy vocals TBH but better than I thought he'd be. Loved Civil War especially. Slash is (still) quite good though isn't he?

Currently watching Loyle Carner. Has already triggered a trip to Amazon.

Fatboy slim was the dogs bollox, I dread to think how long it took to edit and build that set, I lost count at 300 edits and started bum shuffling in my seat, that’s definitely one set to record the audio from.

Chrissie Hinde is the coolest 71 year old!

This. Their set was brilliant, perfect vocals, incredible guitar work, Jonny Marr (and Dave Grohl) and cool as ****.

Looking at shots of the audience it struck me that it will be quiet day in IT, HR, Finance etc departments up and down the country tomorrow.

All the senior managers and directors who normally do the haranguing will be nursing hangovers from Glastonbury or chucking a sickie.

And let's not dress this up. Guns N Roses were god awful. Erratic performance this, incredible they're still going that, blah, blah. They were awful.

Just caught up with the rest of the GnR. Yes it does improve a little once he swaps mich’s. They are musically very good.

oh and thanks for the comment about the camera changes every 2 seconds, I couldn’t see past that after reading that !

Slash doesn’t look like he’s had a wash or changed his clothes since I last saw him in the 90’s !

I love rock music, have a concert history from Diamond Head and Magnum to Metallica and ZZ Top, stopping off at AC/DC, Alice Cooper and Marillion on the way plus a whole load of similar stuff over the years.

Agreed on GnR. Terrible sound balance, not a great choice of tracks and the performance itself a bit meh.

I liked Maneskin and the ChurnUps

Came here to say this but was beaten to it

”FBS dropping Maxi and Faithless into the mix was an awesome moment.”

Just catching up on Kevin McCloud’s set from last night.

From the sets I’ve seen it’s probably my favourite so far, as above well honed.

Apparently Axl’s vocals were much clearer if you were actually there which maybe explains why they didn’t just turn the volume up!

According to the missus Axl’s vocals were not clear at all. She was there in a very good spot. In fact, she’s a GNR fan and has seen them a fair few times but she left half way through the set. I had quite a few disgruntled texts from her last night!

I saw Axl fronting AC/DC a couple of years ago and was really impressed with his singing.

Maybe Angus growled something about turning up to sound check before the gig.

And perhaps that’s why GnR turned up on stage at the allotted time last night.
They weren’t on time for the gig, they were just very late for sound check.

LDR was 75% through an absolutely amazing set when she got cut off by the other stage curfew. I know it was her fault but really Glastonbury? GnR we’re still performing so it can hardly have been noise!

The crowd was massive, bigger than for GnR and there was a lot of disappointment not to hear the last songs which would have topped an already epic show from her.

I mean I get the demographic at glasto is middle aged but  most of the bands playing should have been put to pasture years ago. I love the Manics and they did a good set but it’s pretty much identical to when I saw them in the 90s. Same goes for Lightning Seeds, Texas, Foo Fighters and as for GnR… they were just an embarrassment - would have been better just to have Slash doing a solo spot earlier in the bill.

I guess AM have developed musically but they were just too knackered unfortunately and didn’t put the pedal down enough.

Not an epic year so far really - they need to take more risks with headliners and not cut the friggin power in the middle of one of the best sets this year!

If I could “Like” a post, @winston 👍

I guess most of the decent new stuff is on the smaller stages? I find I’m embarrassed for them when I see the old hasbeen punks on stage. It’s grim to see the “youth music” that I loved played by old codgers!

Glastonbury FACTS

Headliners will be disappointing.

They will also divide opinion on whether they should have been there in the first place.

Folk will complain the organisers don’t take enough risks with the bill these days.

Other folk will point out they never did.

There will be a gem of a performance somewhere - it will not be near the top of the bill.

Pop folk will suggest there aren’t enough pop acts, dance folk will say there aren’t enough dance acts, folk folk will say there aren’t enough folk acts, rock folk will say… well you get the picture.

Almost everyone will say it’s stuck in the past, too corporate, too white middle-class, not as good as it used to be, etc.

The BBC will say it’s been the “best Glasto ever”

Tickets will sell out instantly again next year

Anyone who was late because they were doing their sodding hair deserves to get cut off. Shows a lack of respect for her audience. She had all day to do her hair!

Is there a sweepstake on how many different acts Dave Grohl will play with?

I think it’s three so far including the ChurnUps.

...they need to take more risks with headliners

Agree. Main interest around the headliners tends to be whether or not an aged performer can still perform.
It's difficult because of the way music has changed. Hard for newer bands/performers to build the same kind of "headliner" following as those from pre-digital era. Much more fragmented with loads of smaller niches.

Seen him a few times now both times a really good night out and generally fun atmosphere. He always came across as genuinely having fun and a bit humble at the end thanking the crowd. No "I'm a DJ god!" Type BS.

He did a series of mixes on his you tube channel before a tour. I think it was 9 x 1hr mixes and built the set out of those, so not just thrown together.
