[Closed] Anyone allergic to meat?

I know a huge amount of people with allergies and intolerances, but no, don't know anyone who has a reaction to "land living" meat.

Not sure how that stacks up against those vegetarians who like to insist we weren't designed to eat it.

It's an evolutionary process not a design process. That which works and improves us gets selectively improved every generation.

Mammalian Meat Allergy. It’s a thing.

I have a particular dislike for airborne meat. Not allergic though.

I worked in the food industry for 38 years - dealing with allergies on a day to day basis. I have never heard of anyone allergic to meat.
There is a big difference between “don’t like” and “ allergic”
As the protein make up in you both and a cow is going to be very, very similar I would think it unlikely.
It is certainly not on any list of know allergens - and does not have to be listed. Shellfish does

Yup, thanks to your link I am now aware of what the definition of a mammal is :

Mammals are animals that are born alive and not in a shell.

I used to work with a lady who was allergic to meat, it's an actual thing.

Weird - never knew about it.

Trying to figure out how you might be allergic to meat and not allergic to your own muscle / skin. I'd imagine that those with meat allergies have all sorts of other medical problems before they begin to notice that meat causes an issue.

But according to the good old NHS, it is a thing (although it's not an accepted / adopted 'known allergy' that has to be listed on food packaging and ingredients).

Have had a couple of colleagues and a friend with various meat intolerances/allergies.

Hives after eating rare beef is one (strangely ok with anything that's been cooked beyond recognition as meat), another who has a similar response to chicken in all it's forms. She's also allergic to half a dozen other things though.

Seriously: I think the distinction needs to be made between allergic and intolerant. Our dog is intolerant to poultry (and possibly beef) for instance. Took us years to discover why he had

Shaking of the head

Wheezing

OTOH I’m only intolerant to Stella Artois.

People are probably allergic to everything somewhere in the world.

First heard about allergy to mammalian meat from ticks on a radio program about a Scottish game keeper/deer stalker who got it.

IIRC he said it can wear off over 2-3 years if not reinfected, but due to the nature of his job he was always getting ticks so now has to stick to fish and foul for meat.

He said it's often difficult to link the anaphylaxis to the tick bite as it can be some time later that you become allergic.

Correction: our dog is allergic to poultry and possibly intolerant of beef.

Humans can also have poultry meat (and egg) allergies but it’s not common.

Chicken Allergy Symptoms (in humans)

Urticaria (hives), redness, and chicken allergy rash
Gastrointestinal symptoms including nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps
Runny or stuffy nose
Mild fever
Wheezing and difficulty breathing
In rare cases, anaphylaxis

I know someone who cannot eat meat due to a condition that means they need to severely limit consumption of protein, i.e. nil.

I just googled it, it might be PKU which apparently we are all tested for at birth. I suppose not technically an allergy.
