world cup for me, is the daddy, nothing comes close

So you're saying that a global competition might have stronger teams than a competition limited to Europe? I'm sure that everyone here will join me in thanking you for your devastating insight and perceptive analysis.

I'm saying the level of the euros is poor given the likes of Iceland, wales and northern Ireland all got to the quarter finals, a simple and valid point, hence wales getting to the semi's not only says they overachieved but also in a very poor tournament.

If the wales team is so 'good' then lets just see how far they get in the next world cup, then my insight can be questioned 8) 🙄

No matter how poor the Euros have been or not this year, Wales deserve all the credit they get, they punched above their weight and did better than many of the other teams in the competition. They were unfortunate last night as Portugal have been very average this tournament and last night Wales lacked that bit of spark they have shown in the preceding games. Whoever meets Portugal in the final will make mincemeat of them as quite frankly they have not been in the same class as the 2 teams playing tonight.

Well done Wales, hold your heads high, the team and the fans have been a credit to the country.

id be proud if i was welsh, id also be incredibly annoyed that English people decided to switch allegiances to support the welsh as soon as England crashed out (wasn't that when we beat em eh?!, but that sums up English people)

wt actual f?

How is supporting your neighbour a bad thing? I always find it very poor that Welsh & Scottish fans support their own teams (not just football), and anyone playing England. Seems the English fans in this case were doing the better thing!

I think you misunderstand the point about Wales being 'good'.

It's that they have historically been rubbish, and are a small country with an even smaller FA. However they've done very well with what they've got. No-one's saying they are a world beating team or up with Brazil, Germany and whatnot.

No-one's going nuts over Germany being in the semis - they deserve to be there.

I'm not sure on what planet folk getting carried away thought wales would win it though

No-one thought they WOULD. They thought they MIGHT win the semi, which was always a reasonable possibility. Until the second half.

Wales have always struggled in part as they where seeded far down and always had very tough qualifying groups for tournaments. Hopefully this performance will get them an easier WC qualifying group and they will be in Russia.

Well played Wales, worthy semi-finalists and could well have made the final.

well I'm not welsh, why on earth would I support wales?

its like saying Germany should support Poland as they are next door to each other

its just another case of England trying to latch onto somebody elses success, just like murray (who hates England) in the tennis.

I'm saying the level of the euros is poor given the likes of Iceland

Iceland qualified for the Euros by beating a team that had just come 3rd at the World Cup.

Football has changed in that the smaller teams are now fit, super organised and incredibly hard to break down. This is a change from the past and they all deserve to be there.

The only problem with this is that it's total cobblers. If the level has been "poor" then it's because the so-called bigger teams couldn't get their acts together. Alternatively, it's just possible that the less-fancied sides got where they did on merit.

You've been invited to consider why it was that the likes of Greece and Leicester City succeeded, but the penny doesn't seem to have dropped.

I find it very sad that this comes out in sport – there is the fateful comment that Andy Murray has tried to distance himself from about England, then there is the Welsh football team's apparent joy at England crashing out. Why we can't all get along and not have such hate bubbling up all the time is beyond me.

so Iceland are effectively better than Spain by your wreckoning, just because they got further in one tournament that was a pretty piss poor standard throughout? 😆

the Leicester thing yet again is freakish, absolutely freakish, even the bloody manager of them said so 😆

but if that's your level of thinking that they are suddenly great amazing teams, then so be it, mine isn't and I think the likes of wales are not great teams, nor will they ever be unless they get an influx of players that are all playing at a very high standard (the championship and below is not), the same with northern Ireland, the same with Iceland and the same with rep of Ireland.

EDIT : and Greece, again a shite team, not a good footballing team at all, remember it vividly, they were awful to watch, and not remotely a good team (hard to break down, a little bit of luck etc, but not a good team)

why is it so hard to comprehend you don't have to be a good team to succeed? stroke of luck, other good teams playing badly, good spirit, good work ethics etc etc etc it still doesn't mean they are a good football team

if you've played football at any decent form of level (ransos I'm assuming last kicked a ball in the playground 🙄 ) then you appreciated 'good' teams, teams that try to play football, something you seem to think is as black and white as getting to the semi's means your better than the team that went out but has won the world cup and euros in the space of two years on the previous tournaments (spain)

again 🙄

Both Spain and Iceland got to where they did on merit. Other commentary is superfluous.

The best team in the premier league is the one that finishes with most points. It's how leagues work: look it up.

but if that's your level of thinking that they are suddenly great amazing teams, then so be it, mine isn't and I think the likes of wales are not great teams, nor will they ever be unless they get an influx of players that are all playing at a very high standard (the championship and below is not), the same with northern Ireland, the same with Iceland and the same with rep of Ireland.

Again, you seem to be having a great deal of trouble understanding how tournaments work. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that most people don't want them decided by FIFA rankings.

EDIT : and Greece, again a shite team, not a good footballing team at all, remember it vividly, they were awful to watch, and not remotely a good team (hard to break down, a little bit of luck etc, but not a good team)

The purpose of entering the tournament is to win it. Greece won it. Other commentary is superfluous.

why is it so hard to comprehend you don't have to be a good team to succeed? stroke of luck, other good teams playing badly, good spirit, good work ethics etc etc etc it still doesn't mean they are a good football team

Oh dear....not sure why you guys are bothering debating with him. Just spoils what was a positive thread. He's not telling any of something we didn't know already, he's just being very offensive about it.

OW, maybe you should watch gymnastics. Ice skating or competitive dance. In those the style is everything, football is about scoring more than the other team, there are different ways to do it but being the best is about winning.

Oscillating Willy, if you could put all this negativity into a positive force, your beloved England will breeze to the world cup final on your support alone.
