Dug out an old ~year 2000 eco-drive watch and the second hand moves one second, then two seconds in an irregular fashion. I'm guessing it's the capacitor that's had it. Is that a fair assumption? If so is there anywhere to get a cheap Panasonic MT920 capacitor (less than a tenner) to get it back working. It wasn't an expensive watch so don't want to spend a fortune but might be nice to be working again.
Thanks
Have you tried leaving it on a bright windowsill for a couple of days to charge (I know bright and this time of year aren't easy).
The two second tick indicates low charge as you rightly say.
Citizen will change the cell for you, but they will charge a fee.

Nope, that normally means that it's run out of charge and then been recharged so you need to re set the time. As for replacments, I've just sent mine off to Citizen for a service and it's only £72. Again my watch wasn't too expensive but it was a graduation present from my parents so I'd like to keep it running for as long as possible.
Well the jewlers called and apparently my watch is obsolete so can't be serviced. If anyone has instructions as to how to replace the battery/capacitor a Eco drive watch (caliber no 7810) I'd appreciate it.
Go direct to Citizen. They did my calibre 8700 not so long ago.
It was citizen who said it was obsolete.
Did Citizen actually say that or is it the shop giving you some BS to try and get a sale.
It's not uncommon for shops to say that.
How can a watch be obsolete? Did time go decimal when I wasn't looking?
Do they mean they don't have the parts any more, or something?

I'm fairly certain it's the latter! I've only spoken to the shop on the phone but as they've had the watch for two weeks I think it's a fair assumption that they sent it off to Citizen. I've been offered 15% off a new watch but I'm not that bothered as it was a graduation present.
I wore my 16 year old Eco Drive Tough today and it's going strong. I lost the original strap sadly (the replacements are pricey) but the watch has been faultless. Fully expect to be handing that one on in my will!!!
You could ring Citizen and ask them yourself to be sure. Phone number on this page
Yeah, go direct. I didn't deal with a shop, I just followed their online returns / servicing instructions.

They're also a bit crap. I'll be going third party when this one needs replacing, which is probably going to be soon.
I use a Luminox NATO-style band which suits the watch's character and is also v comfy
