If you like a steam train and live between London & Worcester then this may be worth a look on Saturday -

https://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/historic-stream-train-to-stop-at-northampton-railway-station-this-weekend-following-major-restoration-1-8866156

The full journey with timings can be found here - https://www.steamdreams.co.uk/page.php?pageid=12%C2%A0

I'm going to plan a ride out to north of Northampton on Saturday morning to spot it.

The project near me took a big step yesterday. The last guy to drive the very last steam locomotive into town drove one of the first out along the old replaced line yesterday. It’s an amazing project that has been on going for about 10 years now.

My dad used to work on a farm owned by the current guardian of the Union of South Africa. A sister train of the Mallard. He maintained a small spur on the farm and run a puffer on it most Sundays up to the early 90s. Google Lochty Railway, Fife. We got shots up the front.

I live abut 4miles from Didcot Rail Centre, thats about 3.5 miles as the train flies. When I started renting here I had no real idea until one Sunday I was off up the Ridgeway and saw a few guys with little step ladders and backpacks walking down the road. Being the country I was a bit worried it was a 'speciality interest' involving farm animals, it was however steam fans heading down to the bridge to snap a special train passing through.
Since then I've been to the GW centre a few times with family and massively love it.
I have a flat in Weymouth near the station and we do get get the steam trains in there now and again. Amazing to watch them struggle up the hill towards Dorchester. I can remember being in Weymouth on holiday and watching steam trains going through the town down to the quay. We used to put pennies on the tracks and then try to find them after they had been flattened.

Just a tiny part of what is in the shed at Didcot:

I still appreciate a steam locomotive, such a fine piece of engineering, with most of the functions on show. I used to ride the footplate of an 0-6-0 pannier tank shunter around the marshalling yard at. Chippenham station when I was at school, the dad of a classmate who lived nearby drove it, so we got free rides!
Still get a bit of a thrill seeing a train pulled by a steam loco at full throttle!

Up close and personal with the Flying Scotsman! 😬

Arrived at Stourbridge for a trip into Brum for food and beers, and spotted a few fellas with cameras on the platform. And what do you know, the above mentioned train puffs past.
Lovely site, much more pleasant that the usual DMU’s that you normally see.

We got my step-son a steam driving experience for Xmas on a local-ish railway, I'll be the official photographer.
He normally drives class 66's & 70's for Freightliner.
