They are quite popular in the Tweed Valley where it is customary to ride up the hand built mtb trails ripping all the features out of them. 🙁

Just trials then, or do you have to put on a French accent?

Yeah, well folk are pretty hacked off when months worth of work gets trashed by one guy on an mx bike. Is not giving a flying **** about anyone else just part of the fun?

Presumably clarifying on an MTB forum that it's the motorised form, as opposed to bicycle. Or sheep dog.

Riding off road off road bikes on closed private mx tracks is motocross and it's bags of fun.

Riding road registered bikes on legal rights of way likes BOATs is classed as enduro or green laning, not motocross.

Riding illegally is just illegal, no defence or justification. It's way more damaging and dangerous than mtbing on footpaths and plain stupid. Not even comparable and not a sport. Not giving a flying fk is part of being a bell end. Bell endery Venn diagram will contain a few offroad bikers, but it's got many other members too.

Someone who tears up a mountain bike trail on an MX bike is clearly a knob head.

The thing about knob heads is they can ruin your day no matter what activity or vehicle they choose to use. I doubt anyone involved in this discussion would take their MX bike anywhere that they're not supposed to.

(Even though the 4x track at Hamsterley is begging for it!!!)

Swapped a sports bike for a trail bike (wr400) years ago when living in Devizes. Lots of fun, great trails on the wilts bye ways and Salisbury plain. Riding an mtb helped my fitness for the wr.

Riding mx (cusses gorse) was great fun, but when you roll over jumps, a 10yr old will fly past at head height (literally).

I'd go enduro or h&h as others suggested. Top times

Worth having a think/look at trials too. Very satisfying, sociable sport, plenty of crossover with mtb, loads cheaper than pretty much any other motorsport, loads less potential for physical trauma than short circuit or MX racing, but, depending how you ride, can be pretty physically demanding.

This. Get a trials bike 1st, do some trials comps then just go faster. till your'e going fast enough to need a crosser.
Enter the Scott Trial, see how you get on. 😈

I get the feeling that trials riding looks really impressive, then when you get on a bike, all of the moves you've seen and are dying to copy are totally impossible. Then it would be frustrating and you've got a bike with no seat that you can't ride anywhere. Just like BMX.

It looks amazing, but I imagine it would take years of practice to be half decent. Plus, I just love going fast (within my limits) and getting plastered with mud.

I can honestly see me having an enduro bike this time next year. I've got a summer road trip planned with the DH bike but have no interest in riding British downhill through the winter. It's horrible. I'm currently thinking a Nicolai Geometron and a KTM EXC would be all the bikes I'd need 😉

Yeah, trials is something different. I do have a trials bike in the barn, but I never did get it.

Had a day with the Mick Extance lot when they launched a trials day, was really good fun - and physically far, far harder than I expected! But you need lots of the right land to ride it on, I'm sure there must be trials versions of MX practice tracks to go to, dunno where they are.

If this doesn't look and sound fun, I don't know what fun is. 🙂
