I have OSX Lion and Office for Mac 2011. When I open a file, it always takes me back to my document root folder, whereas on a Windows machine with Office, it takes you back to the last folder you were in which is much quicker when working on multiple files within a particular folder.
is there a way around this?

Dunno, but i'd be keen to find out how to fix that as it annoys me too (with Office 08)

Strange. Lion/Office 11 here, and it always defaults to the last folder location used, even when quitting and restarting the app.
