my birthday tomorrow and we're staying over at birchanger next to stansted, ready for a flight tuesday morning.
there seems to be a smattering of pubs in the area, any recommendations for a decent one or will they all be much of a muchness? doesnt have to be anything special, just decent pub grub at (hopefully) reasonable prices.

I would suggest the Swan in Felsted, but it's the wrong direction....
Every time I head Stansted way I see signs for the Green Man run by the Galvin Brothers. Don't know if it's too far for you but could be an option....

I used to work for a company based a few miles down the road in Great Dunmow. It was some years ago, so I'm not going to recommend anything specific, but it's a fairly well to do place and all the pubs and the independent hotel in the middle of the town were great.
I even got mushy peas at one of the pubs there once! Down south! I remember they were a bit shocked that someone took them up on their offer, never been accepted before they said. 😁
thanks, i had a look and thought yeah, it might be the other side but its only 15 mins so we'll mebbes try that.
but.....just got to the digs and theyre queueing for fuel right onto the motorway, so i think we're going to be prisoners here for the night! happy birthday eh, service station on the motorway 😀 still, theres worse off im sure.....
if we got an uber/taxi to pick us up theyd be ages in the queue and ages to bring us back too. got to hope its a bit better in the morning when we need to leave for real.
