What does it for you? Throw us some tracks that embody all this and more... not necessarily for the lyrics (though could be part of it), more for sheer power and composition of the tune. Here are a few that do it for me...
[url=
of Horses - Funeral (Danny Macaskill ๐ )
[url=
- Silence (Tiesto remix)
Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla
[url=
Jimmy Eat World - Disintegration
To be enjoyed in a dark room, very loudly.
Master of Puppets - Metalica
Keeper of the Seven Keys - Helloween
Man Next Door - Massive Attack
lads of classical music too
Oh, that Jimmy Eat World track is pretty epic... love it ๐
I cried when I saw her play this live.
the cocteau twin's version of [url=
song is possibly the best, but there are many.
And I have a collection of versions of [url=
to the river, but this is my favourite
And this is what heaven sounds like
can someone who knows how make this a Spotify list?
[url=
Masakela - coal train
And this is what heaven sounds like
Lovely... see that's the thing with properly powerful music; regardless of genre, language, style or anything else, it just is powerful and moving regardless... keep 'em coming folks ๐
This is the kind of song which just makes you scream at the sky and then weep.

hmmmm... not so sure about that one Roper... Pavarotti, yes, Spice Girls?? um, no... though I think I'm getting your point, sublime and banal in one piece?
Neurosis - everything
Crippled Black Phoenix - The Ressurectionists
There are lots of others, but these probably come closest to how I interpret what the OP is referring to.
These are a few that do it for me; emotion, powerful, moving, haunting:
[url=
Is An Astronaut - Fragile
[url=
- Dead Dogs An All Sorts
sleepmakeswaves - One Day You Will Teach Me to Let Go of My Fears
Ry Cooder - Paris, Texas
Rodriguez - Concerto D'Aranjuez
I could post a lot more but Ill leave it at that...don't want to be too somber on a wet sunday morning ๐
Absolutely powerful
why aren't videos working today eh?
[url=
- No Pussy Blues
[url=
Cave - Into My Arms
Both still give me goosebumps but each in a completely different way.
Oh yeah! I should have added:
Cult of Luna - The Beyond
I got another:
28 days later soundtrack. So very spooky.
great track Fueled ๐
I love this song it was released around the time that my Grandfather was dying.
you really need to listen to the whole album for full on maximum hanuted epicness but here's a taste
Good thread
Elfin put this on the disco thread a couple of days ago...perfect
is it just me, or are videos not working?
working for me
ah... isn't working in IE8 for some reason, works fine in Chrome though.
Ah, just thought of another one that rocks me... great lyrics 8)
And The Tea Party as well...
rock epicness
goose bump inducing drums and bass
Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition
Marshal Tucker Band - Can't you see
The Cinematic Orchestra - All Things to All Men http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueKO3A6qpLE
Hans Zimmer - Injection http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3iAzdbg3mo
The Time Frequency - New Emotion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_66dho7tkU
Think I'll have a bit of Muse...
This honestly made me cry at Reading, and I couldn't even tell you why. The power of the first bit topped off with the breakdown to piano just knocks me out.
The instumental version of the western is tons better Conrad adds nothing to that track.
yep, prefer your version joolsburger... nice tune ๐
Brian Eno - An ending
Velvet revolver - fall to pieces
Paul Mounsey - North
Elbow - Mirrorball and One Day Like This
Beautiful music, Ruska means the colours of autumn and you can hear the sadness. One of the most moving songs I know even without words.
word to your mothers, long time lurker - a music thread's too much fun to miss though.
i give you:
oh, a big thanks to creg - i saw God Is An Astronaut a few months back, but had completely forgotten the name of them! very good live - wasn't sure it'd work. they were touring with a band called something along the lines of Butterfly.. (Explosion?) who i only caught the end of, but by all accounts were better than the godly folk..
roll on someone making a spotify playlist of all this, good idea that man.
I like this something nice and sinister about it
"Scars are souvenirs you never loose" from Name by the Goo Goo Dolls,
Hear You Me By Jimmy Eat World as we all have someone in life that we never get chance to say goodbye to.
Nightwish - The Poet and the Pendulum
or with fireworks:
New Order - Ceremony
Joy Division - Atmosphere
Lisa Gerrard gets me every time
^^^^
Dead Can Dance have produced a lot of spine-tingling music, great choice!
Not a single track(!) as such, but if you want "epic, powerful, emotional, moving, inspiring, haunting", look no further than the voice of Luke Kelly, the original singer from the Dubliners. This is him singing the Ewan MacColl song, The Shoals of Herring:
And an instrumental - The Chieftains and Carlos Nunez, a Galician piper, Duelling Chanters from the Chieftains album Santiago, which is just goosebumps from start to finish:
