Apologies in advance as it's probably been done to death, but the search didn't turn up much. I really want to learn about photography and how to take good pics. I currently have a decent compact, Fuji F70EXRI'm currently weighing up whether I should go for a budget DSLR or a good bridge camera. I can get an ex demo Fuji HS10 for £200 with full warrantyAlso looking at the pentax X90, very cheap used. There is a massive difference in price when you take into account the lenses for the dslr's. I'm not going to make a hobby out of photography, but do want to learn how to do it well. Couple of friends have recently bought canon dslr's and seem to get great pics without much effort and the video recording is excellent, which i will use a lot. So, my question is, given the above, is a dslr really worth the extra? Are they THAT much better? I'd be looking at a max of £300 initially, so obviously buying used. Is that a realistic budget? Thanks

Yeah I was a bit concerned (see thread from a few weeks ago about fast primes) but then I realised I had auto gradation on all the time which seems to fill high ISO pics with loads more noise than is needed.

I'm also trying to get DXO to work with my E600 by hacking the RAW files, not having much luck so far tho.

found the HS10 for £225 inc 8GB card, card reader, mini tripod, bag and cleaning kit.

Effective lens 24-720mm, records video at 1080p, cmos sensor, shoots RAW, super slow-mo, panorama, motion remove, best shot etc etc etc

for what I need, it seems like a no brainer really, especially at that price
