Just get some Ugg boots or some of these

She's soon accept the Converse as very much the lesser of 2 evils.

If you want a pair of Connies go for it - although I switched to Vans a long time ago...
just wear them with conviction.

I bought a pair of these recently to feed the Vans addiction:

Even I find them offensive. 🙂

Yes - You're too old to be wearing children's shoes.

Sorry...

Yes. You are a middle-aged mature adult. You have to dress like one.

Buy yourself a pair.

It won't be long before you realise they are overpriced crap. Then give them to your daughter. She can probably wear them with a nice pair of woolly socks.

Never paid more than 30 quid for a pair of Vans.
Outlets and sales all over the place.

Must be the same for Cons?

my fifteen year old daughter has forbidden me making the purchase on the grounds of my age

That's the best reason for buying them 😆

Certainly is. Then make sure you wear them with shorts when you turn up at school to pick her up, let her friends know just how cool you are 8)

Converse are the best plimsols for the over 40 man about town. I have several pairs. Bright red hi tops and camo shorts are a top combo for picking up the kids from a friends = Maximum shaming for the teenager.

David Cameron tells the Daily Telegraph about his favourite Converse trainers

The head of marketing department at Converse took his own life later that day

Highly unlikely, they have had a renaissance since out of touch middle age men started wearing them again!

Sorry, it's golf shoes or Hush Puppies only. Put on with the aid of a tortoiseshell shoe-horn.

I'm over 60 so I have to wear 5-10s for the extra grip, or I'd totter over.

We obviously have a difference of opinion of what is "overpriced" for a pair of plimsolls 😀

But my fifteen year old daughter has forbidden me making the purchase on the grounds of my age.

It's your purpose in life to embarrass your kids. In fact, I believe it's enshrined in law!

Sorry...

Umm, I think you'll find that Converse shoes were designed to be worn by adult basketball players.
Would you walk up to a 6'7" bloke on a street basketball court and tell him to stop wearing children's shoes?
Personally I find them a bit hard on my feet and rather sweaty and clammy, although I have a pair of low-top 5:10 shoes in a similar style which are dead comfy.
Vans are my preferred footwear, preferably plain black, or with minimum decoration.
I'm 60, btw.
And I wear what I damned well please:

And who are you to tell someone else what to wear?
I've seen similar comments made in the Daily Mail; you're not a contributor to that publication by any chance, are you?

I'm 37 and have merrills (trailgloves), air Pegasus 89s, DCs, numerous red wings and 2 pairs of cons (not sure I'd go with hi tops tough).

Nice to see Tony Martin on the podium today sporting a pair of old looking black high tops! Never saw them as podium slippers.

If they are good enough for Keith...and he's 20 years older than me.
Been wearing them since I was 15 don't see a reason to stop now, they fit my long skinny feet perfectly.

no you are not too old but I find them as uncomfortable as hell

One reflection is where you wear them, big meeting LEA's and Cabinet office Whitehall folk all suited and booted (rare for me) and in walks a thirty something male, thin, beard with expensive suit and converse trainers, the chair asked if he was a Whovian, the answer was yes, Chair( easily early sixties) whilst I applaud the writing of the series it is not appropriate to bring to dress in the manner of Dr Who at this meeting it was not a fancy dress party or ComCon, he was asked to leave the meeting and attend with appropriate footwear. We waited 20 minutes for him to return and his delivery of the presentation.

so choose wisely where you wear your footwear...............

Age IMO isn't important here.

How you behave is.

Say for example I am 20 and wear formal shirts and slim jeans (not skinny), as wearing a t shirt, hoodie and skinny jeans doesn't match my somewhat serious and some say prim and proper personality.

So likewise if you don't behave like a stereotypical 40 year old, then they may well be quite fine for you to wear.

on a side note: for the record I wear converse to add a bit of youth to my attire, since I would look like I'm trying to hard to act older if I wore more formal shoes say.

Go for it - partner with a Snapback slightly tilted to one side - that'll show your pesky daughter!

Only joking mate, no offence meant.

I've got some. Only really wear them at the gym as they're not particularly comfy. Vans fit me better.
