Thinking of some kind of porthole or glass block type thing for an exterior wall, that's not a normal window. Any ideas or experience?
CCTV camera on the outside with a live 24 hr feed to a big, wall mounted TV inside.
When it gets dark, leave it switched on but draw a curtain over it.
You could call it an e-window 😉
Opaque glass blocks might be an answer. Not sure how energy efficient they are though.
Talking about walls not roofs mind.
I'm sure there'll be a similar thing for walls.

Glass blocks are very 1930s. The new ones can be had with argon filling for a U value of 1.5.
You won't get anymore light than you'd expect with the somewhat small window size with light pipes. To light a corridor they're fine but a bigger room I'd go with glass blocks. Our neighbours used glass blocks in a wall that overlooks us - looks fine from the outside and is as good as a similar sized window on the inside.
This would be either additional light for the living room or light for the hallway. Both walls that get direct sun all day, so it needs to be diffuse light.
Alternative to a window to let light in..... How about just a hole 🙂

Also make sure you maximise incoming light - White reveals inside and outside, no shading or again go light colour on surfaces to maximise reflected light etc.
