Ep 5 was not excellent, I sacked it off after 20 mins as it was as boring as f, only watched the rest yesterday , the remainder was better and generally I will commend the writers and production team, for sticking with the general silliness that is the alien plot where very little does or has to make sense. Some of ep 5 made no sense at all so there you go.
Is it good?, no not really, will I continue watching?, yes I will because it’s the only new bloody sci-fi horror thing out there.
I’m rooting for the eyeball to takeover the boy genius and come out on top now.

Same here. Increasingly just to see how silly they can make it. After Ep5 the answer seems to be: Very silly indeed. I get why "What happened on the spaceship" had to be later on in the series once they've introduced [most] of the alien species, so viewers would have some idea about what was going to go down, but honestly it did nothing to move the plot along and really solidly confirmed that the writers are just phoning it in. I don't know why i held out any hope; every Alien franchise movie past the original has been disappointing one way or another.
I’m just glad I didn’t watch Alien Resurrection from that clip up there ^^ … i mean the Alien just looks like a skull. That ain’t Giger designed! Its cack.

Ginger himself was pretty scathing about the creature effects in Resurrection, IICR. I'm paraphrasing here, but he basically said, "It looks like shit. I mean it literally looks like a turd.".

That was the point. It was a hybrid created in a lab that killed the 'proper' xenomorph just before that clip started, then imprinted on Ripley (also a messed up clone) as its 'mother.' I said it was disturbing...
This is now hands down the geekiest thread I've ever seen on stw
Alien resurrection is, by a long way, not the worst. Bad ass Ripley, swimming aliens, mutant aliens, ticks the boxes.
This week
I don't like the way the alien menaces. I feel they are going for the alien isolation vibe, but it's not working.
Apart from that, really good episode.
Characters on the ship were one dimensional, but no more so than any other imagining.
Good the way Morrow's story was fleshed out
Morrow vs kids vs evil geniuses is the thing, the alien is a side bar
It's Fargalien for sure
I’m rooting for the eyeball to takeover the boy genius and come out on top now.
Oh,yes please 🤣
Still loving it. Some quite infuriating scenarios in the latest episode that left me thinking "but they wouldn't do that", but I'm happy to push those thoughts to one side as it's great TV.
And I love Ade Edmondson 🙂
OK too slow this episode until the last 20 minutes.
Decided to watch Alien again after it - it's been remastered on Disney in 4k. I was expecting dross.
It looks really good (on my 4k telly) as it's all 'sets' and no CGI, just a few plastic Airfix models in the space scenes.
Only recently got a 4k telly as our old Samsung finally let go. We've only Disney in 4k. This 1977 movie looks great.
Might need to revisit the original Star Wars.....
left me thinking "but they wouldn't do that"
Bearing in mind that it's still got 2 Eps to go, so there may be things still be circled back to (at this rate I can't help but think there's a season 2 coming over the horizon) the plot holes and stupid decisions made by characters are making it really hard to enjoy this. Take the negotiations scene as just one example: Morrow knows that Boy Genius sabotaged the Maginot, so Yutani knows, and yet there she is, offering billions to have her stuff back. Instead they hatch a nonsense plot to steal a face-hugger.
It's just such poor painting-by-numbers writing.
I'm not so sure about that. Yutani was trying to get its stuff back without having to admit what they were to the arbitration guy. 20 billion is likely a blip to her and, if the aliens are worth more than that, then it becomes a plain business decision.
ANYWAY... Shit's getting real now. I agree that a second series looks likely though. If they get a mostly positive reaction to it, it's a certainty.
I think they need to nuke Tracey Island from space,it's the only way to be sure.
I think the plot to steal a face hugger is the sort of thing that Morrow would do anyway (more "infiltration" than "attack"), but to distract from that, Yutani has to go through the motions of 'normal' negotiations between the two parties.
I'm just making sure my brain is off for this though. It's been a while since I saw something Alien-related that was not a bit crap, so it makes a change that something is mostly decent.
"Don't worry, the aliens are kept in secure cells within the lab, which is also heavily secured".
Child removes massive air vent cover in lab and drags facehuggered body into it....
The ...
Aside from that, fantastic, as an Alien fanboy it's just brilliant. I adore it.
... was ridiculous. This is only just avoiding falling into the "incredibly smart people doing incredibly dumb things" trap that ruined Prometheus for me
I suppose he was young and inexperienced, so can kind of be forgiven

I know, you kinda expect it now,but it still makes me shout at the screen. 🙃
It annoys me that I have never seen any sign of a risk assessment form or accident report book.
This is what happens when you let AI handle health and safety. 🤣 🤣

lmao, some poor schmuck coming into that lab on monday morning, seeing the carnage and realising he's got a full day of filling in HS&E paperwork 🤣 ("ffs not again!")
And I love Ade Edmondson
The "I'm pregnant" storyline made me hope for someone releasing a gigantic fart as a shoutout to Vivian's pregnancy.

Not Tootles, the real scientist who went in after him? Perhaps explained by the fact he was in an emotional state, perhaps irrational.
I did wonder why Kirsh sent Tootles in, perhaps that was the plan all along - the feed door sabotaged to force the situation. Its too obvious to think "If you use kids, you get kiddish behaviour". He was watching it all from the flying machine as an experiment observer.
... was ridiculous. This is only just avoiding falling into the "incredibly smart people doing incredibly dumb things" trap that ruined Prometheus for me ('oh look an alien snake thing, let me take off my PPE and stroke it').
Not wanting to be pedantic but didnt he look at the snake thing and it wrapped around his arm so tight it snapped his arm. This broke the suit he was wearing which allowed the snake thing to enter his suit and eventually get in his helmet and in his throat. He didnt remove anything.......
Much better this week, albeit still dumb as a bag of toes in spots: "Hey, let's just just wipe a portion of the dangerous, traumatised android's memory, mention nothing to her mates, then just let her sort of...find...out?".
Also loved the highly secure (yet strangely unstaffed and unmonitored) lab facility, with its shonky feeding hatches and capacious air ducts, featuring easily removed access panels. Writers really making it easy for themselves.
Favourites are still Ade Edmondson, Timothy Olyphant and the sheep.

They are all going to leave Tracey Island on a boat together.
This will be the foundation of series2.

Plot development. It's why all the characters do stupid things. They're just there to move the plot along.
Oh, and the android-munching blue bottles are dead ringers for Patrick Hockstetter's flying leeches, as described in Stephen King's It.

It did actually occur to me that we're going to end up with a Life of Pi scenario at some point, given the plan to escape by boat.
The sheep and Olyphant are the only characters who can remotely be classed as good actors. Edmonson is terrible, he had more gravitas in Bottom.
Still enjoying it. Some of it is dumb, obvs. I've no problem at all with Edmondson.
Where’s the AE merch?
id love to purchase a xenomorph in a Rodin’s ‘thinker’ pose. 😂😂😂
Ok, episode 7 was daft. Thick jungle with a week worn path through it yet the highly trained but seemingly clueless guards can't find a pair of kids carrying a body.
Oh, or were they not meant to? Kirsh could at least be watching them on CCTV.
Five episodes in. Ho hum. Oh well, at least Gen V is back.
Watched all three episodes so far this morning. Could teach the A: E team a few things about pace, scripting, internal consistency and yoof characters that even an old **** like me can care about.
It was fun seeing the xenomorph playing at being a Predator. Yes it's all got very silly, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I got the feeling he knew exactly what was going on and was leading them/the weiland/yutani guys into a trap. I need to rewatch to check but didn't he send them the long way round (presumably to give it time to gestate?)
Ps
I'm still enjoying it!
Reckon we'll see a Xeno or two lay waste to a lot of people in the next episode.
Where was the jungle anyway? I thought the ship crashed into a big ol' city? The gaps between eps is making it hard work 😀
The jungle is on Tracey Island where Boy Genius lives with Ade Edmonton and discount Roy Batty.
As for the Xenos getting in some bodycount, they are not doing badly as of now. I want to see what the eyeball is going to do with the sheep.
I’m hoping “the eye” gets given the Cyborg’s body (the guy from the crashed ship) so that we get an alien/human/machine hybrid. Torn about whether I want that to then take on the xeno, or if it should go all out to destroy the humans only to be stopped by the mineral eating bugs taking out it’s non-organic parts.
Still got the plant alien...... Have no idea if that's a red herring of sorts and will do nothing ever...
And the ticks!
Pretty sure Boy genius is planning to put the eyeball into Wendy's brother? That way she can communicate/control him like she does with the Xenomorph. That's the impression I got anyway...
