Cool Water was an absolute revolution in perfumery; the perfumer used raw materials like Calone and Dihydromyrcenol normally used to give freshness at tiny dosages in airfresheners and fabric conditioners but used them at up to 4%, which is what gives the perfume that amazing aquatic freshness. Happily they were never priced as expensive ingredients for eau de toilette so Cool Water is cheap to manufacture and very soon the supermarkets were full of knock-offs in shower gel, shaving products and so on.
Angel (and A-Men) contains 40% patchouli oil so it's expensive to make. It also has a crystalline material called veltol, which gives a sugary candy-floss note but turns bright red in contact with iron.

At Uni, back in the early 80's I found the oils used to determine the refractive indices of various minerals under a microscope.

Aaaaah, my first love wore Cool Water. When I was 16 he bought me the women's version and I still wear it to this day.
I was given Cool Water by an Ex - I believe she'd bought it for her previous boyfriend and got dumped before giving it to him so I got the benefit. Not sure I liked it that much though.
One of my friends had the best smelling aftershave ever (as I remember it) Paloma Picasso - Minotaure. I've looked for some for a while but not sure I'm happy to buy a modern formulation as I've heard it's changed - probably because of the reasons Globati's outlined.

Horizon by Guy Laroche was a bluebottle number. Doesn't sound so good when described like that but it smelt lovely. Still got a drop left. I don't wear perfumes much these days but I do give it a sniff now and again.

The perfume in WD40 is quite good, it's related to Shalimar by Guerlain; just a lot cheaper.
It was all Jazz or Kouros round our way in the 90's
Were they not mid 80's fragrances? I used to have both of them when I lived at home and I moved out in 1987/88.

The Rasasi perfumes from Dubai are all "inspired by" more famous couture or designer perfumes but at a cheaper formulation price and in cheap packaging. There isn't anything innovative about them.
