So, i'll popping out today to look at an old Mazda 6, 2008, 120,000, 2.0d.

I'll be taking it for a test drive.

Any advice on what to look out for?

My car knowledge is ever so weak. I know to check it has four tyres.

Happy to walk away if it's rubbish.

We had an earlier one, a 52 reg, and I hated it. Hopefully they were better by '08.

Find someone who knows about cars and take them with you.

How did you get on?

Rotten wings?
Rotten underneath? Brake pipes like string?

It's based on a Mondeo so you can Google issues with them if there isn't much online about the Mazda.
Mazda do their own engines though so they'll not have the same issues.

OP - The 2.0d in the facelift version of the previous model (2005-7) was prone to DPF issues. If it is the same engine do more research.

Second the DPF Issues.

Also check for bad paint chips on the front of the car as the Mazda paint s quite thin.

Well, the DPF had been removed and the millage didn't match the MOT documents (car showed 40,000 less from last MOT).

The search continues.

A quick and easy check is to put the reg in https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

How did the seller try and explain that?

OP - at that age the Mondeo 2.0 TDCi is probably a safer bet, more choice, cheaper parts, slightly lower insurance.
Better DPF design/reliabilty too.

LOL, he couldn't. I just thanked him and walked off.

I think I'm coming to that conclusion to.

I can sort of understand why people choose to lease when you know little about cars.

I'm off for a ride, car shopping is a hateful process.
