Saying what you think, saying no, patronising young people, having to work out how old you are from the year as you can't remember....

I turned 45 yesterday, so I feel eminently qualified to comment.

I've always been pretty dour, but now I feel I've grown into my cantankerousness. It's great not having to pretend to like shite new music or be interested on whatever dire new shows are on TV.

Enjoying it so far, as one must because you're only middle-aged once.

I had thought of a few advantages, but do you think I can remember them 😳

What you used to do all night takes you all night to do........hmm, maybe not!

Nowt wrong with eccentricity. 😉

I'm not quite so anxious about myself.

Blow drying your nads in the gym changing room.

being yourself
doing what you want
doing it when you want
not giving a hoot
and growing loads of new body hair............ 8)

Forgetting your pin at the supermarket checkout and standing there laughing. 😀

Laughing at the small stuff.
Passive aggressiveness'es.
Observing Youths play at real life.
Being able to say No, and absolutely mean it.
Falling asleep at 930 of an evening without thinking "I must stay awake, it's far too early to go to bed"
Ironing.
The beauty of listening to what ever music takes your fancy, at any time.
Being able to have just one more snifter of Whiskey.

I had to swap cards at the station after two wrong tries, one more and I'd be locked out. Remembered it a few days later...

Depends what you define as middle age, but I can tell you that at 47 I don't have to avoid temptation, temptation does a marvelous job of avoiding me. In a way that's nice, being in a loving stable long-term relationship as I am, but FFS, they could at least PRETEND I was still eligible!

Not there yet (still 39!) but getting older means you know a bit more about life and people, know what works for you and what doesn't. Much easier to spot the shysters and game-players and being confident enough to walk away from them...
Downside is some people become very stubborn and inflexible in their views, which is less helpful...
Oh and I'll be running as a Vet from May onwards which means less competition 🙂

Feeling more connected to everything ,in a Zen kinda way.
I am either heading for enlightenment or slowly losing my mind 🙂

Starting to get time back again as kids get to look after themselves now and again.
Knowing what you want and being prepared to go get it.
Luckily fit and healthy enough to enjoy it.
Temptation is still out there, and you can be grown up about it, and have a laugh.
Lot of this stuff is about money and time, but a lot of it is prioritizing your needs toward the top of the pile a bit more often.

I guess I qualify at the sprightly age of 41...
Wearing comfortable, not fashionable, cloths and not caring
The ability to have a 6th sense on peoples personality when you first meet them
Being able to afford most stuff but just not giving a toss to buy it
Having enough memories of good times to chortle to yourself when confronted with other people talking about similar situations

But your pubes are grey.

Not giving a damn what other people think about you - I would NEVER want to be a teenager again.

Having the self-confidence to chat with anybody you like. I wish I'd had that as a teenager.

At 56 I'm considered very old indeed in Africa, though I don't atually look that age.

Being able to make noises when sitting down. It genuinely is a pleasure to take the weight off my legs sometimes, so deserves a small "Aaaaah" now and again.

Watching TV on a 40" screen rather than a 4" one
You don't feel the need to answer the phone if you can't be arsed
You realise that texts can be replied to any time in the next 48hrs, they don't need immediate attention.

^^ but still being annoyed at the airplay of Radio 2 during the day ^^

So, tutting at Ken Bruce, The bloke in the middle that whines a lot, then that self promoting dick in the afternoon, until a bit of sanity returns with Simon Mayo.

So during the day, we tune into Radio 6muxak.

Having a justifiable crisis

You've done tons of stuff but see there is still loads of good stuff left to go, it's just new stuff that you wouldn't have got when you were younger. Brilliant

Being able to say to Young People those immortal words; 'When I was Your Age...'

Getting a sneak preview of the day ahead's weather when you have your 3:00am pee. 😕

Laughing inside at young people while they make all the same stupid mistakes that you did.

Looking at a nice young lady in a short dress and thinking 'She'll get cold in that'

Knowing stuff. Not bobbins stuff that came out of a book or a university course but real stuff. Like immediately knowing when someone is lying or being able to pick up the nicest bit of steak on the supermarket shelf in a second.

Going for a wee. It really is one of the simplest yet most enjoyable things a middle aged man can do.

Being chilled about the right things. This is my ultimate middle aged best thing. Kids are usually chilled about everything but that just cocks their lives up, *knowing* which things demand attention and which things you can ignore is a beautiful place to be.
