I watched the Liverpool v Bolton game on Saturday with my scouse, Liverpool supporting mate. We were on about the whole affair and he said he was acutely embarrassed by Liverpool's handling of the whole thing, and that is has done irreparable damage to the club, and undermined all their previous good work against racism

And surfer - I'm not saying Liverpool is a racist club. That's ridiculous. But the handling was hopelessly naive to say the least

Note how neither Fergie or Evra uttered a word in public on the matter.

Although Evra did "utter" offensive remarks to Suarez on the pitch, and he admitted to that. To his credit Suarez claimed he hadnt heard them.

Evra was allowed to give evidence whilst watching footage of the incident. He was able to comment as each confrontation occured on the screen.
Suraez was asked to explain what happened without that benefit. This I understand was what gave rise to the "unreliable witness" allegation.

Liverpool are unhappy that Evra was granted three meetings with the FA and given access to video evidence well in advance of the December hearing.
It is Liverpool’s belief that Evra was coached by the FA disciplinary team before meeting the commission, enabling him to piece together his version of events to tally with the footage and appear more consistent in his verbal evidence than he had been in earlier statements.
Suárez, who did not have access to the same video evidence until he sat in front of the commission, according to Liverpool, inevitably had a sketchier memory of what had happened at particular points of the game which had been played two months earlier. This made him seem less sure of what took place at certain moments considered of importance by the commission.
