My dad chose Shine on you Crazy Diamond for his funeral music the &%$£@£%*. Now every time I play what is one of my favourite songs too, I think of him.

'If You Don't Know Me By Now', to be played as the casket trundles away to be cremated, obviously 😉

Edit: ah, I see I was beaten to it!

We've recently had my Granny's funeral - she wanted birdsong / sounds of nature - Many remarked how nice it was . .

Is I am the resurrection a little presumptious?

Among all the jokey replies that is genuinely lovely.

I'd request Bowie's Lazarus...

...but I also want something suitably flippant that will raise a smile. Good call to the poster who suggested "Shine on you crazy diamond".

I think the Happy Mondays' Hallelujah might be in with a shout.

Ideally I'd like the curtains to open, coffin move forward then reverse as "Should I Stay or Should I Go" play.

"Movin on up" by Primal Scream would be good or "This Monkey's Gone to Heaven". Failing that "Dear God" by XTC.

I entirely agree.

Although I am not joking, I genuinely intend to have Killed by Death as I go through the final curtain. So long as I go before most of my mates (the Goths and Bikers particularly) it will give them one last giggle 😉

I want Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac "Need your love so bad" before a Humanist reading to anyone that can be arsed to turn up.

My lad has been told in no uncertain terms, that despite what his mum says, AC/DCs Highway to Hell gets played as the curtains open.

My kids have had my specific orders for my funeral. Carried in to Stayin Alive by the Bee Gee's and Disco Inferno by the Tramps as I get shoved into the oven.

"Ellan Vannin", just because I'm a Manxman and "Take Me To The Place" (Deacon Blue), because it's like "Abide With Me" but even better, and with beautiful fretless bass.
If I have a headstone anywhere, then I'd like it to have a mountain hare on one side and a raven on the other.

I've let several people know I want 'So Long, Fairwell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye' at my funeral, just in case they outlive me.

@Sandwich,

And when I’m gone
The worlds revolve and life goes on
So mark no grave
Forget my name
If the song remains
And everybody’s got a drink and a smile
Well, that’s just fine by me

I'm not having a funeral. Don't want any fuss and certainly dont want my family to have to shell out on unnecessary nonsense. Just turn me into ashes and that's that.

No song necessary. Maybe R4's Today programme playing in background.

Sandy Denny Who Knows Where The Time Goes and Emmylou Harris's Prayer In Open 'D', with Rachmaninov's Isles Of The Dead' as backing for any readings.

My main things in my life have been dogs, motorbikes, push bikes and music.
The music has always been there regardless of anything.
This song sums up when you and the music become one and you totally let go.
A song to celebrate living and being yourself.

You'll find that cremation is, in many councils, more expensive than traditional burial, depending on location of the crematorium relative to funeral home and cemetery. And a casket is required regardless of choice.

Sorry to put a damper on things.

Burial is better for the environment too. 7 years or so and you've been recycled 100% in most graveyards, bones, teeth, the lot.

I'm going for this, I reckon:
