[#2273420]

Lets balance up some of the negativity towards our opposite sexes with a celebration of some of the key reasons you've chosen you wives, husbands, life partners...

It could be raw physical attraction but how about some of the more peculiar, little things that make you love the one you're with?

Additional points for things that you love that wouldn't have been on you 'ideal' partner list.

If you asked me in a non-web way (face to face) I'd say - personality, clever, kind.

Honestly: eyes, clever, boobs. (and many MANY more that I've come to appreciate over the years)

She's mental, gorgeous and the only person who loved me even when I hated myself. We've been together for 17 years

Can't think of three, just one.

She took me back after I left and had an affair.
For that reason alone I will stay with her until I die.

Met by complete chance, somewhere neither of us would normally have been that night (on a Thursday).

Instant attraction across the dancefloor, even though she was out of my league and by her own admission I wasn't her type.

I went to work the next day and told my apprentice that I was going to marry this girl.

Nearly couldn't contact her again, as I had no idea where my mate who was driving (I was pissed) had dropped her off - she lived 20 miles away from me. Remembered next day that she had written her phone number on the car window in the condensation, so had to go to my mates and breathe on the window.

She's the most selfless, thoughtful, considerate (complete opposite to me ๐Ÿ˜• ) & generous person I've ever met.

She has two fit sisters

She's dirty

Oh, and we're still in love 18 years on.

bassspine - nothing sad about that, it's lovely.

Crikey - go on... one more... why did you want to get back with her then?

Because I made a mistake.

I was generally fed up, depressed, midlife crisisey, and took refuge in developing a new relationship with someone younger and who appeared to be more 'fun'.

I realised after 6 hours at my 'new' home that I made a mistake, that it was me who had the problem, not anyone else.

I left and lived with my Dad for three months and asked if I could have another chance, and she said yes.

I messed the other lady about, and I live with the guilt of doing that, but I am eternally grateful that I had a second chance.

Ok seeing as I'm slightly pissed. Wasn't looking for a relationship, last one was pretty bad ( think hormonal teenaged girls wtb self esteem issues and confused sexuality I'm sure you can imagine) but there she was blue eyes, stunning charming, clever, funny. Fell instantly. Slight problem that she had a boyfriend. Couple of months of me trying to be aloof. (read bitchy) all came to head one midsummer party.

Couldn't be happier

she is proper good fun, has an infectious laugh and is far 'cooler' than i will ever be (oh, and i fancy her a lot too).

not been together long in fairness, and unfortunately shortly after we got together i moved abroad for my job, but skype is great, and she gets relatively cheap snowboard holidays ๐Ÿ˜‰

Jo's brilliant ๐Ÿ™‚

emsz, can I ask a question?

If she had a BF, did you have to tread carefully before ending up with her, or did you kind of just know things would be ok?

You know what I mean..

..and cos you are drunkish, you really don't have to answer!

1 - We met

30 seconds before I ever knew she existed I stood up and said to my mate - I am going to meet my wife today (I was 21 and it was lunch time). He laughed. I had my back to the door as she walked in but I pointed behind me and said I will marry her!

I was right, I did and we are still happily married although I am 20 years older.

2 - She agreed to marry me

When i said I would marry her my parents said they would disinherit me (they are loaded) and I said that I didn't care. What I didn't know at the time was they approached her her as well and she also said no.

3 - She still loves me

I work all over the world but she is always glad to see me when I return. The stupid things like finding a post-it note with 'I love You' written on it when you open the wash case is amazingly good feeling.

She was my best friend at school, never kissed her except in games of spin the bottle, didn't see her for 10 years, then she wanted to kiss me, even though she knew who I am. 15 years later just thinking about her makes me smile.

Mine didn't end well though, as I realise I'm just happier on my own ... with my bikes though!

Crikey I sort of knew ( so did she really) I'm not one for cheating. We sort of found excuses to be around each other. A Lot

she was the first girl i ever went on a date with. in april of this year, after meeting through an online dating site 2 days before my year's subscription was due to end and i'd all but given up hope of ever meeting anybody i'd click with. but click we did; that first date was meeting for tea and cake on a saturday lunchtime in manchester and ended up sharing a bag of chips after a walk in the countryside 9 hours later!
don't think i can actually pick three specific reasons; we just fit together in every way. she's amazing. and i am so lucky, and grateful that she said yes to that first date...

TSY - ah but my biggest mistake was marrying at a young age. My second mistake was evolving mainly through obsessive running, followed by mountain biking.

On the positive side, I now like myself. 8)

Are your expectations unreasonable? Or are you finding fault with yourself? Feel free to e-mail, I have a lot of experience with soul-searching/behaviour analysis. ๐Ÿ™‚

TSY- i should add that she's the only one too!
i've had a bit of a weird life, relationship-wise. never did the dating thing, had a couple of girlfriends during school/college years but throughout my 20s i was too into skateboarding, MTB and playing guitar in bands to put any effort into women at all. 30ish saw the start of a 10 year relationship that, with hindsight, was a bad idea right from the start (she was quite a bit younger, and quite damaged). i persevered with things and it almost killed me, but that's all fine now and right now i don't remember ever being this happy.

C_G well they say that finding fault in others is a sub-concious admission of feeling fault in ones-self...

Maybe I'll e-mail you.

TSY- you don't need a tart, I'm here waiting for you with babby yeti all wrapped up in my tummy (It may actually be a curry and some beer) we can live in a lovely little hut in the woods and sire a tribe of canibal children and ride bicycles and collect flowers to show the world our love for each other.

tazzy! I've missed you. I'm sorry for saying I was going to run off with someone else. I know we can still be happy together. The picture you paint with your words is almost too perfect though, I'm scared that we won't be as happy as I imagine.

For most of my life, I've gone on thinking the women I've bin with haven't been good enough for me. Always seeking 'perfection'.

Eventually, I realised it was me that wasn't good enough for me, and that I'd missed out on potential happiness. ๐Ÿ™

Ah well. Better late than never, I spose...

Bloody heartwarming, you big hairy Yeti monster.

3 things?

Well, the first thing was ... my ex-girlfriend pointed her out to me and said "She's your type" ! Bonkers, as later that ex tried to split us up in a very vicious way. (Actually phoned her parents and told them a load of stuff). Sam stayed with me through that.
then..
those amazing blue eyes
and..
she puts up with me!

and (4) she's the most intelligent person I know, even if she does say "somethink" occasionally.

Honesty on STW? Crumbs ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well, after many years of being a complete [s](bloody swear filter)[/s] and enjoying the charms of many ladies, with a few longish relationships thrown in... I finally met an old friend on a trip home for Christmas 10 years ago. It was all very Christmassy.

Married now. She loves riding bikes and camping, she's travelled more than I ever made time for and only about another bazillion reasons. I'm not an easy man to love but I think she does pretty well.
