faves?
heard Iron Maiden The Trooper other day on 6music, a blast from the past quality 😀
Much D-A-D stuff, Cinderella, Van Halen, Metallica, GnR, Tigertailz, AC/DC, Damn Yankees, Skid Row, Motley Crüe. Most of it really!
Faith no more tunes maybe more early 90s though I reckon,
Early Metallica - superb stuff.
Testament - The Legacy
Exodus - Fabulous disaster
Everything good and bad about 80's metal in 4 glorious minutes
..and Diamond Head of course.
no mention of Spinal Tap 😆
loved early metallica
Ratt - Round and Round, 80s spandex-tastic. The video has Milton Berle in it, in drag. Go figure.

That is truly truly awful, and not in a good way.
I'd throw in 80's era Ozzy, Exodus, Guns n Roses, most Bay Area thrash.
Got to love a bit of slayer...
Pantera - for some sweet dimebag riffs/solos
Get your bermuda shorts and sneakers on. Anthrax FTW!!!
Ratt, Lay it Down
That is truly truly awful, and not in a good way.
But you can't deny that it distills the sheer ridiculousness of the 80's metal scene rather well.
Musicwise I'm more of a DRI/Dark Angel man but I do love a bit of pure metal silliness every now and again, saw Manowar few years back, bloody brilliant, one of the best atmospheres I've ever experienced at a gig.
But you can't deny that it distills the sheer ridiculousness of the 80's metal scene rather well.
Part of it, maybe, but not the part I listened to.
That Nitro vid is utter carp, glad it passed me by, totally ridiculous guitar histrionics!
As a Jilly's regular, these, amongs many others bring back a lot of memories:
Faith no More The Real Thing was 89 so it counts 🙂
I like Suicidal Tendencies. Started listening to them just as I was getting into mountain biking. Me and mate used to blow our dole money on trips to the Lake district, Suicidal tendencies were always in the cassette player of the car. Happy days.
Standby stomach, here come banana.
ST....ST....ST....ST
Dino Jr metal? Hmmmmmmm.
And 'Introduce Yourself' was 87 🙂
Managed to pick up a vinyl copy of 'We Care A Lot' from Piccadilly Records, brand new in 88.
Had been released in 85, so god knows how it got to Manchester.
Dino Jr metal? Hmmmmmmm.
Well, it was a regular in The Banshee/Jilly's/Rock World, along with loads of other Punk/Crossover stuff like Mudhoney, Dead Kennedy's, Killing Joke etc.
Rock wasn't all spandex and make up in the 80's 😀
I have much thrash from the 80s in my collection. \m/
This was 89, but reminds me so much of that period:
Bit before ny time but Diamondhead white album- quality!
ST were great, I did a 'retrospective' on spotify the other day and their stuff stands up relativity well.
Any how what about MOTORHEAD they practically invented metal.
Saw them at hamersmith odeon a couple of times in the 80s and it was the awsumz
Georgia Satellites - remember seeing them in the old International club in Manchester. We built a pyramid New Model Army stylee in the middle of the crowd and Dan Baird (vocalist?) stopped what he was doing to watch us!
Georgia Satellites ! Blimey, saw them at JB's - I think it was their only UK date!
Edit - clearly not if muddy dwarf saw in manc !
Any how what about MOTORHEAD they practically invented metal.
Erm.... no, they didn't.
Accept
Georgia Sattelites metal ???????
Saw the Satellites a few times, first was on their debut UK tour in some hall in Stoke on Trent. Great gig 🙂

Faith no More The Real Thing was 89 so it counts
Argh right, cheers, 😀
And that was the first album with singer mike pattern, whora guy! 8)
Would have to agree with pigface - satellites not metal. Diamond Head however..
Voivod
S.O.D
Nuclear Assault
Slayer
The Accused
My music interests started with King Crimson's ITCOTCK, then Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Sabbath, Uriah Heep. The 'New Wave of Heavy Metal' left me cold, apart from a bit of Anthrax, most of it I thought was overblown and daft, then Mudhoney, Faith No More and Soundgarden came along and restored my faith in heavy rock.
😀
'The labels you pin on yourself fall off and start to rust.....'
And those labels are in your head, messing with your mind.
I can't believe that no one's mentioned Saxon (although they're arguably better now then they were back then); we'll worth a listen I'd say.
Zodiac mind warp and the love reaction, the High Priest of Love E.P. Is brilliant
Not sure I would call them metal 😉
"and the more they take the p*(* the less people you can trust" eh Pete? 😉
AC/DC
Twisted Sister had a moment
Crüe
Maiden
and justice for all
Not sure FnM and AC/DC are metal really but still - great bands though.
Anthrax, Megadeth and Metallica were my 80s metal faves I but had a soft spot for some of the NWOBHM bands back then.
Diamond Head are awesome
No mention of Priest yet?..
Despite my ultra favourite Priest album coming in 76' (Sad Wings of Destiny) - their 80's albums hit the spot.
do Steel Panther count?!
