Afternoon,

This Friday I'll be arriving in our "wonderful" capital around 4ish on my way to Brighton. Because train companies love cyclists so much I won't be allowed on a train to Brighton until after 7.
I'll be on a rigid SS. Where can I go to enjoy the bike before I give it back to my brother (in Brighton)?

Cheers,
jon

I have visions of someone mashing his keyboard in frustration, right now...
🙂

some will say Richmond park, I say go and explore the city.

Just ride around and get lost. Go up roads and see where they go. Relax outside of one of the myriad superb pubs (Near Victoria, the Marquis of Westminster on Warwick Way gets my vote. Suntrap, great service and good beer too)

If it's sunny, go for a leisurely bimble around Hyde Park and enjoy the views 8) Black Iridium is the lens of choice. If you're feeling more energetic, ride out down the King's Road and off in to Richmond Park for a lap or two, it's a bit of a way from the centre of town, though (Although you could always ride to Clapham and hop on the train there instead)

Seeing as RudeFredBraBoy's not here, I'll do the usual stick up for London while all the chippy Northerners berate it! 😉

Even though I was born in London I consider myself to be one of them chippy Northerners! Was there this weekend too (went to see Blur in Hyde Park). Only there for the evening and the travelling through but came away with a nose full of black bogies. Nasty.

Maybe I will just go explore. Although I suspect the hours between 1600 & 1900 aren't the best to be out on the roads.

on a bike the only crap time to ride is in the morning bicycle rush-hour. Weaving, queue jumping, ill-disciplined other cyclists are more of a pain in the arse than any black cabbie or bus.

Where are you arriving? and I assume you'll be leaving from Victoria?
From Euston/KingsX-St Pancras I'd head south(ish)towards Holborn, head east and skirt the City, down to the river by Tower Bridge and work your back along the embankment popping into likely looking hostelries on the way.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Yes, arriving at Kings X. Quite fancy a ride through the City. I've heard it's ghostly quiet from 5ish on Fridays until Monday morning. Little drift along the river wouldn't be bad either.
