Neat disposable/consumer-culture/sweatshop/‘C19 cycling/sustainable revolution’ subtext (ergo the ‘26er dead’ comment, ironically 😉)?

Pearls before pswineeuds?

Street art vandalized by graffiti/tag? Double-ironic.

Selfie opportunity for instagram? issabanksy innit? Gotta collect em all

Worthless in every way except to keep social media ticking over?

I live about 200m up the road from it. Says alot about the locals that it got tagged twice in a day or two! The council (very surprisingly) acted really quickly and got a perspex screen on it, so none of the tags were on the actual banksy.

Can't imagine Banksy would be too fussed if the tags had been on the actual work. If nothing else, the art is only a hobby and sideline to his work with Massive Attack.

FFS!

He said: "The fact that the artwork features a bike could be a reference to the Raleigh factory that used to be nearby, famous for its role in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, the novel by local author Alan Sillitoe and iconic 1960 film starring Albert Finney."

That's ace, love how he's basically stepped the art off the wall and chained it to a post.

All the tags were on the screen btw not the actual work- seen that happen before when "official" graff gets protection on it, a lot of people don't like it. The Frank Turner thing in Camden got sprayed a ton of times then they got fed up and stopped replacing the screen, and I don't think it's been done since

IIRC they mostly protect officially approved civic art with some sort of nonstick polymer spray, so that any "additions" can be removed easily and to protect the original paint from the elements.

So how long before the wall is ripped out and it's sold for a few hundred thousand?

Very clever piece of work. Also impressed that he's put this statement about the death of 26" in Cy's home city.
