Maybe it will be like a Ryanair flight to some cities... Beijing will really mean some sort of resort a long way away.

New rail link to Zhangjiakou apparently, so yes the Ryannair analogy is apt!!!

Competitions for luge, bobsleigh and alpine skiing will be held in Xiaohaituo Mountain area northwest of Beijing, 90 kilometers away from downtown. All other skiing events will be held in Taizicheng Area in Chongli County, Zhangjiakou, 220 kilometers away from downtown of Beijing and 130 kilometers away from Xiaohaituo Mountain Area.

I guess it costs so much to host these things, that only China can afford it ๐Ÿ™‚

I reckon the Olympics and World Cups are getting like the Father Ted episode with the Eurovision Song Contest. Nobody wants the bloody thing, apart from tinpot dictators and dodgy regimes...

If the only other option is Kazakstan, then this makes quite a lot of sense

Karkow withdrew because their bid was rejected by a local referendum
Lviv, Ukraine withdrew because Ukraine
Oslo withrew because of IOC demands being 'a touch unrealistsic'
Stockholm withdrew due to a lack of political support

Numerous other more traditional homes of winter sports seeming decided not to bid depsite previously being inerested, maybe because they had been snubbed by the IOC in favour of a hair brained (lucrative!) schemes in Sochi and PyeongChang.

Once the IOC run out of rich regimes desperate to gain international legitimacy they are going to start to struggle!
