where do people park if it's too far to ride to on the day?

Just pick some random side street a few miles from the start?

Train?

I did think about getting a train to East Croydon or Clapham or something but wasn't sure if they'd have a bike ban like they do for the London to Brighton?

Got my magazine and confirmation that I got in today. I entered and didn't get in on the first year and didn't apply last year.

Best drag myself out in the cold and start riding slightly more often now, I guess...

The letter I got suggests you have to collect your starter pack / timing chip on the few days before the event which sounds like it will be inconvenient for those not near London...

I just saw that. What a pain in the bum. Makes it a 2 day event.

You can nominate someone else to pick it up on your behalf.
Last year it was up at ExCel in London, very easy - took about 15 minutes to collect everything and then there was a small cycle show - stands from Wiggle, Endura, Lezyne which was worth a look. Loads of people buying waterproofs for some reason... ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you do that make sure it's well away from the road closures! North London works well. 5 mile ride in to Olympic Park in the morning from Stoke Newington/Camden, 5 mile ride out from The Mall afterwards.

Meh, it's a no for me too. Mind you, that's what happened last year and I then managed to win a team place via a ballot at work. Turned out they'd bought 3 full team places which was nice. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hoping for that again this year.

Avoid South London - that gets totally screwed by all the road closures.

Last year a mate stayed in a Holiday Inn very near Olympic Park but while it was handy for the 6am start, it was a drag to get back there afterwards.

I'd look round North London way. Camden, Stoke Newington, Islington, Finsbury Park kind of area. Roughly 5km to Olympic Park in the morning, roughly 5km back there from The Mall afterwards and no road closures.

I live in the north east side of Enfield, its a 35-45 minute flat, gentle spin on an easy 1 road route through Walthamstow at 5am to get to the start line. Look at the Premier in Enfield Innova Park which quite often has half price rooms.

Hmmm... Got a place but family stuff will make it almost impossible for me to do it.
May have to investigate the possibility of a deferal to next year.

Mate at work who i was planning to do it with didn't get a place, whichhas made me slightly less keen to try and make it work.

I did get the consolation jersey, which it turns out is too big ๐Ÿ™

Anyone want to swap my XL for their L?

Has anybody seen the Ride 100 facebook page? There are some toys being thrown out the cot!

Seems because Johnny from Surrey hasn't had a place for 3 years running, he is going to send his magazine back in protest ๐Ÿ˜†

I am trying my best not to troll them but it is hard...

I'm in, but none of my mates are.

I'm going to have to adopt some Valverde patented wheel sucking tactics.

I wasn't expecting to really do much big riding this year... thinking that the Dunwich Dynamo will be a nice one month to go warm-up for this, now ๐Ÿ™‚

there's a lot of disgruntled male applicants in my club, and a lot of happy females - but we're assured that it's entirely at random...

A lady friend of mine got in for the third year running. Declined/postponed her place the first year, rode a decent time last year (4h15 ish?) and she's in again this year.

Don't whether this is because she's female, fast, both, or more of one than the other.

just seen brakes's's'es's'e''s'e'ess. hmmm.

To be honest, one of the least pleasant aspects of last year's (ignoring the weather, ๐Ÿ˜† ) was the dickheaded behaviour from some of the tour de france fantasists/ straight up dickheads. If more women mean there's less of that, then I reckon it's the right thing to do. Even if I'm not riding. Pfff.

Failed again to get in but got a cycle jersey. Not sure what boxes I ticked, money paid to get that to happen but it appeared and I am sure that I will use it. Son No. 2 did not get in, but Son No. 1 did - and he is not that bothered!!

The worst behaviour I witnessed last year was from some woman who was screaming at the poor baggage handlers at the end because they hadn't unloaded everything.
Cos the course was cut, the times were way faster than anticipated so people were standing around at the baggage collections points on The Mall in the rain waiting for their kitbags. This woman went mental, screaming and shouting, how it was unacceptable etc.

Eventually she jumped over the barrier, into the back of the lorry and just started casting bags aside until she found hers. No attempt to help or organise, just totally selfish.

The riding was mostly OK, couple of dickheads for sure and I had to tell some moron on a TT bike to **** off after he tried to join our chaingang. No idea how he'd got it past the marshals, you weren't allowed tri bars or anything but there he was, full on TT racing bike trying to join our group in the pouring rain. No chance were we risking that liability.

Wonder if this was the chap my mate saw attaching tribars in the pen before the start - he had smuggled them in under his waterproof!

The RL100 facebook group has no winners at all, people whining, people trolling and lots of chippy charity types making it worse by telling everyone that they should just get their friends and family to cough up so they can have one of their places. Grim

I passed that guy on the TT bike with aero bars coming up onto The Strand. I think he was German maybe? I asked how he had been allowed to ride a bike like that and he shrugged and said it was fine. I thought he was a bit of a dickhead to be honest but since he wasn't riding at my pace I didn't have to ask him to cock off.

There were the occasional other twunts but no more than an average day out. It was a brilliant event. Well worth doing. I'm in again this year. Someone was saying that you might have had more chance of a place with a fast time as they need to balance the rider numbers over the course of the start times.

What do mean Whoppit? The rain MADE the event last year.

In future years, at dinner parties when people start talking about cycling and how they've done the Ride London event, you'll be able to say 'ah yes, but did you do it the time that Hurricane Bertha rolled through town?'

Only 1/4 success rate according to the mag. Someone be smart and organise a rival sportive for the same date!
