I still think and have been saying it for some time, if you get a tackle wrong and go high, its your fault. If you lift someone by accident its your fault so why if you try and kick the ball miss and get a head why isnt it your fault? Plenty of others have been cited and banned for kicking people by accident. I think Wood should get a rest for a game.

They are not living it and doing it and I ainโ€™t bothered. They annoy me, piss me off and I am not going to say they donโ€™t. I am just indifferent to how ridiculous some of their chat is

"la la la I can't hear you!"

What is interesting is there seems to be a fairly even split between people saying that the Wales game was a one off that doesn't matter and England are great, and others feeling the direction of the whole team is fundamentally flawed and they've got lucky bumbling along over the past few years. Either way the result of the Aus game is massive for England. I can see them winning just to spite everyone and keep the debate raging on ๐Ÿ˜†

I think you need to be talkign to MR Maurizio Vancini, he is in charge of citing at ther RWC, the rest of us are quite done with it.

Easy solution to Brown's stable state of mind under pressure. Set a series of impossible high pressure tasks while locked in a room for 6 hours with The Hask (TM). The SAS train listening to recordings of Haskell while blindfolded and diorientated so it must work ๐Ÿ˜€

From what I've read in the past, Carling was gifted the Captaincy with no evidential qualification and was essentially fairly clueless and couldn't handle the stronger influencers on the pitch when making decisions, so is hardly a likely candidate to spout the words he has.

and others feeling the direction of the whole team is fundamentally flawed and they've got lucky bumbling along over the past few years

Personally I don't think its flawed outside the facts its a one dimensional team that only has the ability to play that single dimension. As was shown with Fiji and with the 2nd half vs Wales, the team is unable/unwilling to adapt on the field to what is in front of them.

Our entire (incorrect if we wanted to win things) strategy should be "just keep on doing what you do, and hopefully win stuff" which we'd look better doing even if we lost.

Yes well DanW I am firmly in the bumbling along they are shite camp, but I like to see a bit of fire and passion so hopefully it will make a difference on Sat.

Pardon me for trying to discuss rugby on a rugby thread. Maybe its just co incidence that the last two England Wales games have seen welsh players knocked out by englands forwards missing the ball and getting heads.
CARRY THEM HOME ENGLAND!! Hows that? Better?

Who thought up this CARRYTHEMHOME slogan for an England team, playing rugby in england? They are already at home, surely?
Is it more literal and they actually want fans to carry the players to their residential addresses?
Don't get it.

I am firmly in the bumbling along they are shite camp

Me too. England simply don't have the players or the coaches at present.

You're quite right, it is his fault.. when I say exonerate, I meant it looks like he was going for the ball not the head. But still dangerously reckless.

You know I am a Welsh girl, born in Swansea, grew up in Abergavenny and Cowbridge, and always support Wales, my brother played for Bridgend and Swansea. With an English Dad and English husband I am very happy to support England when they are playing anyone else but Wales.

What you are doing is not discussing rubgy, it's pushing an agenda to dig at england/troll the england fans on here. Its somewhat unedifying and not something that we ever tolerated in Cowbridge RFC.

No it isnt trolling at all the lack of a proper discussion on the matter just highlights peoples lack of thought on the matter. If a welsh player had done the kicking i would say the same.

I've been trying to work out the likely Group standings going forward and my head hurts. Basically, if Wales win and England loose next up England are out. But if England win and even if Wales get a bonus point win, the pressure is back on Wales to some extent as they need something against Australia? ๐Ÿ˜•

I was fine with the discussion up until the point that the citing comissioner made his decision, after that it's pointless to discuss further. This isn't football you know, arguing with the ref is not an option. 8)
Anyway it is obviously not deliberate, everyone who isn't welsh and many welsh agrees on that. Yes possibly the rules need to be revised to place more responsibility on the player, along with many other parts of the game, but I think most agree on that too.
Can we talk about the rugby now?

Scamper from 2 pages back:

If Eng beat Aus, but then Aus beat Wales then thats exactly your scenario.
Wales beat Eng, Eng beat Aus, Aus beat Wales
Then I guess imagine Wales beat Fiji and Eng beat Uruguay.
With no bonus points it would be:
Eng 14
Aus 13
Wales 13
But Eng are reasonably likely to get a BP against Uruguay
Wales the same for Fiji
Aus might get one for just losing to Eng, but less likely to get one for beating Wales, but Wales likely to get one for just losing to Aus
So then it would be
Eng 15
Aus 14
Wales 15

All bollocks but amusing to think about.

My predictions however are

Aus min 17 by beating Eng and Wales
Wales beat Fiji with a BP, lose to Aus with a BP so 15
England lose to Aus with a losers BP and beat Uruguay with a BP so [s]12[/s] 11

At the current rate of injuries he'll be on the bench for the quarter finals.
The messiah might just return.

Anyone know how the citing appeals procedure works in this WC?

Thinking about the Nadolo citing. He had the ban imposed on Monday, and has 48 hours to lodge an appeal. If they take their time and prepare a case, then lodge the appeal late Wednesday - what happens?
Would they rush through a hearing before Thursday's game?
Would the ban stand until otherwise decided?
Or would he be free to play (in a game they need him in to stay in the tournament) until after the appeal hearing?

I'm with AA on the head thing, seeing as a high tackle even whee the arm rides up is a penalty I think a having boot that makes contact with the head should too. Especially given the concern around head injuries at present.

No its not the rules at the moment and in that case the citing commissioner was probably correct. But that doesn't mean it's right, the rules can be, and are frequently changed why not this one?

I dont think those players who have been cited and banned before for kicking someone by accident wouldnt agree.

Issues in the Aus team:

http://www.skysports.com/rugby-union/news/15175/10010547/world-cup-over-for-australias-wycliff-palu-and-will-skelton

Not really.
Skelton's a big loss, size-wise at 25 stone, but not yet an 80 minute every week player. Possibly would have been bench impact sub, but highly unlikely to have started another game.
Also, the Pocock/Hooper back row combo that Cheika's now favouring requires another line-out lock to be selected, skelton's too big to be lifted to high to make him a proper firstline line out choice. Fardy's a good jumper at blindside, but Hooper and Pocock's strengths are elsewhere so picking both needs two lineout locks (which the replacement can do better) rather than a grunt lock.
And they picked 6 back rows in the original squad because Cheika said he wanted two complete teams for the four-day turnaround fixtures, which are now out of the way. It's allowing him to re-balance his squad for the rest of the tournament by gaining a hooker, having started with only 2, and losing a player/position that is already well covered.
Clever management leaves them in a stronger position, IMO.

I've said it before, but...
It's exactly what England should have done with Easter instead of their 3rd choice hooker - who's not going to play a game.
Billy Vunipola's a big loss, possibly best England forward so far, but if Easter was already there instead of an unnecessary hooker, then that loss could have been mitigated by bringing their best hooker - Hartley - back into the squad and strengthening rather than weakening. His ban finished between the Fiji and the Oz game.

If he'd been there at the end on Saturday they might even have been able to throw middle or back...

I'm not convinced Wales will reach the next stage. A bonus point is not certain in the Fiji game and unlikely in the Aussie game.

England will beat Australia.

So loum, are you implying there that the Wallabies are faking an injury to bring another player into the squad as a replacement ? Or did I read that too cynically.

Really enjoying this world cup. Can't wait for Saturday's game.

(you know, to find out who the ABs will face in the final.... :D)

No. I'm not.
One's a straight swap - lock for lock.
The other, I see as pre-planned as in - pick 6 back rows originally and swap the first one injured for the spare hooker when the fixtures allow. Modern rugby means it's when not if.
It just happens that the timing has worked for them, and the first one out is the probable 6th choice, and the entirely legal "gamble" looks to have paid off.
It's not a massive gain for them - nowhere near - just no loss and a slight rebalance. The players' involved are unlikely starters, including those coming in. Not worth cheating over.

It could have been a bigger "win" in England's case 'cos the player concerned would be well worth a place in the 23 at least.

ps the ABs last game will be against a group D team

IMO, Englands biggest failing against Wales was not having a plan B bench. Also, the lack of Caps showed in the 2nd half when things were going wrong. England had plenty of chances to score deep in the welsh 22 near the end, but failed and lost by 3 points.

WRT dangerous forward play, I noticed plenty of high arms/headlocks in rucks from both sides. Wood was hardly a monster in a sea of angels. Decision made - move on.

Best analysis of why England lost to Wales is by Ted in the Guardian

What I could not understand from the start was why England did not play: they did score a well worked try from a lineout, which Anthony Watson nearly bungled with a poor pass, but apart from a short-side break by Jonny May in the second half, I cannot remember them getting behind Wales. A team that had ripped defences apart in the Six Nations failed to attack. Why? Because they set out not to lose rather than to win?

Most of the time they kicked the ball aimlessly downfield seeming to hope Wales would self-destruct. Barritt looked like a fish out of water at outside-centre, even though he has played there before for England, and frankly Burgess was little better on the inside. Wales exploited the pairing defensively: while Burgess was direct and straight in the first half, Barritt was holding and pushing wide, leaving a gap for the explosive Scott Williams.

After the break, they tried to stay connected by pushing up together straight, but that left huge space on the outside channels which Wales took advantage of superbly to create their try (Owen Farrell was at that stage playing at 12). There is no question that Jonathan Joseph was sorely missed, but I cannot understand why Englandโ€™s attacking strategy was stuck in the stands with him.

I thought that too.

Given how hot the video refs have been on neck rolls I find this suprising.

Fiji: Talebula; Nagusa, Goneva, Botia, Tikoirotuma; Volavola, Kenatale; Ma'afu, Koto, Saulo, Cavubati, Nakarawa, Waqaniburoto, Qera, Talei.

Replacements: Veikoso, Peni Ravia, Atalifo, Soqeta, Ravulo, Seniloli, Matavesi, Murimurivalu

No Matawalu or Nadolo big bonus for Wales. Worried about this game.

I really don't think Wales have anything to worry about against Fiji. It'll be a bonus point win, easily.

Yeah, I know, but at the StagNHennium, massive support, Gatling galvanising the team in adversity telling the media that he's never had such an injury ridden squad and how Fiji are the team that his players most like to beat... ๐Ÿ™‚

It'll be a hammering.

A team like Fiji is normally the one Gatland lets Hook start against in order to get a battering and not damage the players he actually likes ๐Ÿ˜† Probably a big part of the reason these games are often close too

Wales are equally capable of winning by 60 or losing ๐Ÿ˜•

An even funnier video along the lines of Brown picking on Warbs from the archives (although Goliath started this one)...

This day, 29th september, eight years back

Hoping for another exciting game (Hook was there too, i think)...

other news - Kearney's pain in the bum...

Today, Irelandโ€™s medical team say the scan showed โ€˜a mild gluteal strainโ€™ and while the 29-year-old completed a moderated training session in the gym today, he is expected to return to the field tomorrow and is expected to be in contention to face Italy on Sunday.
Keith Earls and Robbie Henshaw will also be available to head coach Joe Schmidt. The Munster wing has completed the third stage of mandatory testing after sustaining a knock to his neck on Sunday.
Henshaw, the only remaining member of Schmidtโ€™s 31-man squad yet to pull on a matchday jersey, is in full training after shaking off a hamstring worry.

DO NOT EVER PRETEND YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SCRUMMAGING unless you are a twenty-year veteran prop, and even then youโ€™re probably not au fait with the current laws and how they are applied haphazardly

Ha, this is true. I think everything I used to do is now outlawed. Including hooking the ball apparently.
