We've got reserved seating grandstand tickets this year. I read about the gates being open at 4AM etc but if you've got a seat, what time do you really need to be there anyone?

Got there a couple of hours before race start when I went in 2010, bit earlier than planned as thought the traffic would be worse. Takes a while to walk from the car park though and wanted to go round the stalls before rather than after the race.
It can take a while to get to your seats so bear that in mind. Go fairly early, not so to beat the rush but there is a fair bit to do and see.
Get yourself in the car park about two and a half hours before race start and you'll be fine. Enough time to have a wonder around and see what's what and time to get yourself seated and plugged in (take a radio with earphones).
get there early. Enjoy all the other stuff going on.
