I'm looking to replace my aging flask with a 12v kettle to make a cup of tea in my van after a ride.  Just big enough to make 2 cups (relatively) quickly should be fine.  Is there a market leader?  Or are they all much of a muchness?

The power required to make 2 cups of boiling water is quite significant.

If you actually mean “cups” that is 0.5L (if you mean mugs could be more like 1L).

If you are doing this with a cigarette lighter socket they are often limited to 7 Amps (at 12V) and would take over 30 minutes to boil 0.5L.   Even with a better socket and kettle it will be slow.

if I was doing it I’d take a flask of boiling water and if I really wanted it boiling hear that from 80-100 which will be much quicker.

1kwh power bank and a 600w 1ltr electric pot 🤔.

The power bank will probably have other uses and the £15 electric pot should be able to heat up soup.

£500 well spent 😉

Gas stove and a kettle/pan.  We can do a kettle or coffee maker off our power station but we have that for other 'stuff'.

Kelly kettle, boils a decent amount of water quickly and will add a soupçon of danger to your van life.

+1 on a Kelly/Ghillie/Storm/MK kettle or a wee jetboil knock off...

I use a jet boil knock-off on my boat when I need a coffee or similar - it's very quick and can also be used with a small frying pan for bacon.

Get a small generator and a normal kettle.

+1 for a camping stove, with the caveat that you really don't want to be using it in an unventilated space.  If you're going to be coming to a boil whilst hanging out of her back doors then it'll probably be fine.

Also, you've got a fire extinguisher in the van, right?
