So, the kitchen in our rented house has a total of 6 12V halogen downlighters recessed into the ceiling. When we moved in only two of them were working and we just assumed the bulbs had gone. The two left gave enough light, so we left it.
One of the remaining two went at the weekend, so I removed it to check what kind it was so I could get some more. When I put it back in the connector thingy, it came on. I assumed that maybe there had been a bit of corrosion on the terminals that had stopped it from working, which had been cleaned off when I pulled it out and pushed it back in again. So, being the resourceful chap that I am I thought I'd check the rest that weren't working.
Of those four, three are only connected by one cable (I don't know if it's the +ve or -ve). That would explain why they weren't lit, but is there any reason, other than laziness on the behalf of the owner/electrician, why this might be done?
The fourth one is just balanced in the hole no connections at all...
Any reason for them not to be wired properly?
No working reason maybe to make the kitchen look better than it was?
Get on to the landlord to get the lighting fixed.
