[Closed] 100 days of exercise until Christmas

Yeah go on then-

The challenge was started by my old racing partner Chris. He did it to keep some momentum up for the following year's races - we did 10, 12 and 24 hour races together and he used to do the Celtman mega triathlon.

Back in 2012 he was killed at the age of 24 in an avalanche in Glencoe. I didn't know about the challenge until after he died. Now a few of his friends do it every year, although as some of them have had kids and I'm the only one still racing the numbers were dwindling so I started a thread on here to help with my motivation.

I hope everyone enjoys it. And if you're new to it, remember it's a long time so don't go too nuts. And anyone watching what they eat will regret it come early November when you'll be relentlessly hungry all the time.

Easy turbo ride to start off - should be a fairly decent ride tomorrow, then a proper long mountain run on Sunday so not too concerned. And I don't upload my virtual rides to Strava.

2 walks (school run, around 50mins each) and around some app related core and upper body exercises of around 30 mins.

Day 1 in the bag 😁

I’m in, just did a 1hr ride to the supermarket to pick up something my wife wanted instead of taking the car. Good luck all!

Went out for half an hour on the new bike and just made it in before sunset after an hour and a half.

Wasn't going to include my dog walks as that it seems like cheating myself.

Do private activities (not that sort) show on strava club thing?

I think it's more or less accepted that normal dog walks don't count. If you extend the dog walk to include an extra 30 minutes of walking then that's more than you'd normally do so that's fine.

AFAIK Private Activities don't show on any Strava Group/Challenge lists.

Wasn't a criticism of anyone else saying about them I was just weighing up tracking them, think I'll only record the extra walks. .

Started off easy with a 40 minute fast walk before work. Stopped to watch the swimmers in the Forth and thought sod that!

Well that got me out for my first run in years. Any other time I'd have just flopped onto the sofa, but I took the dog for a run. That's a good thing, right?...

I wonder if the two new runners will be able to walk tomorrow?

Can confirm I'm still able to walk.

It's only a 30 minute run, not a marathon.

well, i somehow managed to ignore the constantly growing list of potential excuses on day 1,
ditched work a little early and got changed into gym kit... no socks..... knowing my trainers probably wont thank me (final potential excuse ignored)
10mins on the running machine (first 'run' since i broke my leg, when the later physio included a little bit of walk/jog)
20mins of weights circuits

i want to do this for the mental health benefits first and physical fitness second

considering relaxing my strava security for the extra motivation of joining the challenge on there....

I could do with finding a cheapish gym for the winter.Do such places exist ?I like to use the outdoor gym but a wet autumn would end that.

despite my strava settings, my name appears in lights on the leaderboard.
slight shame that its picked up everything else this week.

define "cheapish gym"... usually a balance between pay as you go and monthly subscription, with the better value depending on how much you use it
Im in the very fortunate position to have access to a gym through work

My legs are still working. Mind you, it was only a 12-minute-mile shuffle.

Got out the new bike last night for about 20k.

Today and tomorrow will just be walks as I'm away visiting family and don't have anything with me. might take mums and sisters dogs out.

Day 2, turbo session (not able to get out on a bike yet), 20.06 km in 45m 51s.

Good to hear how this all came about.

Taking it steady, as advised above and combining this with kicking booze for 100 days and improving my diet, but not necessarily restricting calorie intake.

Tested covid + this morning.

Hopefully you can still exercise. It’s derailed a few attempts at this in previous years!

I managed a lovely 60km ride round the Pentlands today. Took some lovely photos but don’t want to steal scotroutes thunder! (It has nothing to do with me utterly failing every attempt I ever make at posting photos on here!!)

Day 2, not recorded, but setting up and marshalling a CX event from 5.30 till lunchtime. There was at least 30 minutes exercise in there

Dog walk and Pilates, had high hopes of getting out Hill/Fell Running but half the night was spent dealing with a pukey dog.

I'm probably going against the grain, but I'm recording these by counting down the days, rather than counting up to 100. Psychologically I think it's going to be easier to get down(hill) to no.1 that up(hill) to 100 😄

Day 2, and it was an enjoyable 80km/1300m+ road bike ride with a mate. No photos, but then we didn't really stop that much.

Due to unforeseen circumstances I decided to change to "100 days until New Year" and start next Friday. However, I have managed a 1.5hr walk yesterday and 2.5 today (over and above the normal dog walk). If I can do something tomorrow and Monday, I'll go back to the Christmas goal 😁

Out on the single speed for a ride yesterday, a mix of river bank, bridleway and some singletrack linked together with as little road as possible.
Today it’s quite windy so decided to head out across The Fens into the wind for an hour which was worth the effort as the ride back was a lot of fun, 25mph on the flat with just a little effort!!
Resistance training for me tomorrow, hoping to keep my routine going but already feeling the need for more stretching.

Weight training yesterday
Body balance today
They both lifted my mood.

Kicked off the challenge yesterday with an out and back bike and hike to catch the sunset. Out walking with my wife today - fairly sedate as she's recovering from a ruptured achilles. Heading out for a longer ride tomorrow, all being well.
Sunset over Ben Lomond

Had two longish walks today that add up to just under an hour. Forgot to record them so will do a manual entry for them so I have a record!

Charity bike ride in the FOD tomorrow so off to a good start.

I did an hour of walking to and from the football but I've strained something near my shin maybe due to riding clipped in last night for the first time in years.

Todays exercise was a ride out to the Graviemore "basecamp" at Inshriach to catch up with a few folk and enjoy a couple of beers.

I escaped early as (a) I had to ride back home and (b) Jenny Graham was looking to grab me for a dance.
