But it’s not a hideous, budget-looking, ill-fitting, shapeless blob either.

Maybe I'm being a tad picky, but judging by the pics in the article, that's exactly what it is.

Guarantee you won't see any of these on a trail anywhere near you anytime soon. Roadie wear!

Roadie wear!

No self-respecting roadie, or cyclist of any experience would want to endure the annoyance of such ill-fitting, flappy fabric.

Going (clearly) against the grain. I quite like the idea of this as I often use my "roadie" paper thin "windproof only" gilet when cycling in say Spring and it works a treat, as it keeps the wind off but no heat in. This could well be a winner and it won't take up to much room in my bag when/if it stops raining.

Whether it’s a good idea or not, personally I don’t like gilets, that particular example is stylishly challenged imho, red zips on all colour ways? 🤮 And what makes it look even more naff is the fact it’s about two sizes too big for Ben (if that’s who’s in the pics). 👎

Alpinestars make a waterproof gilet, the Descender 3.
PU coating, taped seams and water resistant zip. It’s got a vented back and packs away into its own pocket. £50-£60

Is this the one made by Cy’s dad? Think I read that in an email recently…

@docrobster - I think it is

One thing to consider is that not everyone riding a bike is a 2% body fat racing snake.... Some cyclists have more relaxed geo and occasionally lady lumps (even if they're are middle aged men).

It’s not attractive is it. But if it does the job I’ll stick it in the same category as my Mudhugger and Pogies and not give a toss about appearance
