@munkeymadness just curious as to why you are not directly connected to the Apple TV?

(I can't do this Thursday or next - have a great ride, those that do)

@drew the Apple TV only takes 2 blue tooth connections. I need 3 (trainer, hr and cadence). Used to be possible to connect trainer to Apple TV and then hr a cadence via companion app. For some reason now have to be all through companion app.

@munkeymadness Ah, of course. That makes sense. My trainer has cadence on the same connection which simplifies things but does sacrifice accuracy on occasion.

Those who do want to ride Bologna on Christmas Eve: usual time 7.40pm? Or another slot (morning / earlier in the evening)?

8.15am is the only time zone I could make on Xmas eve. Although I am not going to help a team get a fast time up that circuit!

I'd be up for a time before lunch - but not any later

Seeing as I can’t go anywhere now, I’ll be up for Xmas eve if it’s early enough

Yeah early one for me as well.
Won’t be able to make the usual time.

Could get on this on an am slot - says 32k on the wtrl page so that's twice up and down? A hard parcours.

I've lost track of what events are going on, but I can probably do either eve or morning on the 24th, I'll check with @mbs.

I've brought a Neo trainer back from the dead (£50 on FB) and now have two bikes set up, so will see if I can convince little-haloric to join in (27, C cat).

I've dithered over 8.15 and 10.30 for too long, and @drp has gazumped me now with (an otherwise perfectly judged) meetup invitation.

The TTT is still there if people want. Let's decide like this:

- Sign up to whichever times you are available for, and we'll ride whichever gets more people. If you can ride either, enter both for now. If you can ride only one, just choose that.

8.15 is cat A here: https://www.zwift.com/events/view/1389037
10.20 is cat A here: https://www.zwift.com/events/view/1389064

Two laps ("laps") of Bologna. Team entries are in for both slots, so if we do get a team together the admin is already in place.

If I did any, it'd be 10.20, would like to but can't make any guarantees at this stage!!

At the moment it's..

8.15 1 person
10.20 3 people

So 8.15 doesn't look popular but we might yet get a team together at 10.20.

Sign up to category A here: https://www.zwift.com/events/view/1389064

Anyone else interested sign up to cat A here https://www.zwift.com/events/view/1389064

(and let's forget about the 8.15 option).

OK, as it stands it looks like:

Team STW, in the pen by 10:20, start delay TBC (should be available this evening; I will post it!)
@paino
@phil56 - change your tag!
@trolo1234
@haloric - sort your tag!

4 is a small team, which might be a tall order on this course. But is there a chance that @zilog6128 might ride? And perhaps @mbs can be persuaded? You might need to decide on here whether to go for it or not.

More riders (not just the ones I mention here!) are of course welcome. Join Cat A here: https://www.zwift.com/events/view/1389064

I've signed up with my son Jack - although for some reason thats not showing on ZP yet under his 'signed up' profile page.

We should both be there, I'll check its registered later today. We are in the same shed, so if we have a technical drama, we'll both be gone.

Final details, we've assembled a good team.

Team STW, start delay 15 minutes, so in the pen by 10.20 and off at 10.35.

@paino
@phil56
@trolo1234
@zilog6128
@haloric
@mbs (check your entry/tag)
And Jack.

It is 2 full laps ie back down again after the climb both times.

Hide behind phil and paino on the flat, then they will naturally recover as you take the climb at a pace which holds you together (10/15 minutes w/kg for the Cs I guess). And repeat!

Good luck!

Well that wasn't as much of a chatty pace as I had hoped! This is going to be harder work than I hoped.

Well I don’t know about anyone else but I’m ****ed 😂 Hadn’t ridden the 2 lapper before and was NOT expecting the final descent/flat so buried myself on the 2nd climb 😃 good ride all (those who twigged it was a TEAM event anyway 😉) and happy Chrimbo! 🎅

Cheers for the ride guys. Sorry to ditch on lap 2. I had to go (on wobbly legs) find the emergency gel in my ride bag.

I definitely over estimated what I'd be achieving on a breakfast of 2 espressos.

No trouble Phil, I hope all is well.

That was not very Christmassy course selection by the organisers!

What is your gap? Did @mbs drop you on the descent?

Merry Christmas all, I'll be back in a couple of days to see who wants to climb the alpe for new year.

Hope everything's OK @phil56.

All OK thanks.
Problem was only what will be happening a lot today I expect - teary phone call as the realisation of not seeing kids/grand kids/great grandkids tomorrow gets closer

Anyway, well done to the team who made it, and a Happy Xmas to you all - thanks for the rides this year guys, and a special Xmas thanks to you Adam. It's been great to be part of this team effort, I've really enjoyed it all.

The Mitchellvi twins enjoyed also.

I was struggling on the 2nd climb, couldn't get the bike to drop into the granny gear, never normally need it, but was having to stomp at 55rpm to stay with the group, any slower and I would stall, and any higher rpm and I was pulling away again.

Even though we started the first descent together, we soon split, even though I was only super tucking, we hit 105kmh.

Martin was having a similar but more pronounced problem on his watt bike, plus he's part racing whippet and any sort of rabbit up the road gets him over excited.

Comms was reassuringly awful. I spent the entire race using press-to-talk on the phone, but I think my mic was actually the bluetooth speaker, and my speaker was either getting blown out or too faint/garbled to catch much of what was being said.

Jack took in in his stride at 27, damn him.

Happy Xmas all

Yeah, race tuck is quick. I hit 102 I think down there second time and I was on my own by then, if you had a wheel to follow you will have been seriously moving!

You people. I only got to 99. And that got me dropped briefly, and a chase back on at the bottom.
Beforehand I had thought about going back up for the badge if I didn't get it. Afterwards, not so much.

Good ride thanks guys. And thanks @savoyad for organising!

How do you do a race tuck? I got dropped both times on the descent!

you just stop pedalling! As long as you’re going fast enough (58 kph IIRC) it happens automatically.

It’s why it’s absolutely critical to summit together on a course like this... anyone with legs left can then put the hammer down and everyone gets dragged up to supertuck speed as quickly as possible. If you don’t do that then the speed differential means massive gaps appear very quickly and you lose tons of time re-grouping on what should be the fastest part of the course! However, that is far easier said than done tbh 🤣

Obviously you have to remember to start pedalling again when the descent flattens out otherwise you’re suddenly sat there at 0% gradient doing 0 watts 🤣

So this week is up the Alpe and maybe (it's TBC) down again.

Are people interested? And if so, Thursday morning at 10.20 or back in an evening slot?

Speak up and I'll sort an entry out...

I'd be up for it pretty much anytime during the day, but not in the evening - not that I have anything much else to do in the evening, just that somehow Zwifting on NYE feels wrong!

Thanks Adam but I’m not doing this one!

a.) I will be very slow
b.) since 19th December I have done 700km on the bike including the Uber pretzel and PRL full.
c.) due to b.) I will be even slower than a.)!

I have got 60km to go on the festive 500 and then I will have a couple of days rest ready for the first race of the series a week today!

Good luck if you guys do decide to do it!
