What's a decent wheel on smart trainer that doesn't cost the earth?

I've been trying my old dumb trainer on Zwift but it's not brilliant so might have to splash out.

Cheers for invite, but I prefer my weekend riding on a Saturday, due to hangover/not feeling to good Sunday mornings.

I know.... No excuse!

Most of us ride Sundays with a hangover Giggsy, we take the do or die approach.

Hills are a good cure 🤣🤣

[s] @notmyrealname if you can stretch to it the elite drivo direct drive is 599 in Halfords less 10% with any of miriad discounts would put it a bit over budget but generally a *big* improvement from wheel on. [/s]

Ignore that. In stock but not available to buy in store or for delivery.

@dangeourbrain I was looking at the direct drive models but my bike has a thru axle and runs a 10/42 cassette so would need both the axle adaptor and XD driver adaptor which adds another hundred pounds to the cost.

I might just go with a Kickr Snap, I've found a place with one in stock and it seems to fit the bill.

Is there much difference between the Kickr Snap and the Kickr Core that makes it worth the extra £250 or so?

For what it's worth the drivo comes with a 142x12 adapter in the box and takes a standard hg cassette so will fit the cheapest 11-46 or what ever 11 speed you can find/want (I've got an 11-27 ultegra on mine, the rear wheel has a 10-42, the mech plays fine with both)

Thru axle is likely to be more trouble on a wheel on than a DD due to needing to be able to clamp the axle. (eg the snap needs a £45 axle for 142x12 and it will depend if you're on ethru, maxle etc)

I've already got an axle that works with the thru axle for a wheel on trainer so that's taken care of.

I've got spare 11 speed cassettes sitting around so I could easily use an 11-32 on the trainer I guess.

Cheers for the invite for Monday morning but I'm back to the work on Monday so can't be zwifting really (the once I tried zwift pre actual commute turned out to be really hard!)

Monday morning commute club for anyone interested. 6.45am. Rubber band is on so you can do your own workout and we remain together as a group. Greater London Flat is the route in case anyone wants recon for Tuesday evenings.

Maybe we should have had the rubber band on the Horseman ride last week, then you could have dragged me up that Alpe and then through the jungle hahaha 😉

Doesn’t big loop have a big climb weeksy? I am undecided at the moment. Going to do something tomorrow but might do the Newbury velo ITT at 9 am although tempted for a pb time up the epic KOM as I have only ridden recently when I need to save myself for something after.

Dunno Robbo, not actually looked. Just saw it was 43km and a decent loop. if it goes up it goes up.

The other lads who are riding are slower than me, so it's just a jolly for me.

Not sure I can make it Weeksy, I'd like to but I have a shed roof and door to fit this weekend, weather dependent. Send me an invite and I'll join if I can, it might be too late for me though.

It goes up. But at least it immediately comes back down again. It's not a very @weeksy choice but it's a nice route nonetheless. I can't do (waking hours at) weekends, unfortunately.

Ok.. just seen this is a Sunday, which could work but would involve me taking the turbo to my GF's house!

I've said a provisional yes... what do we reckon... 2 and a bit hours?

I've signed up to the DIRT ride at 11am.. the French route you did a few weeks ago... I MAY be able to make 10 as the GF is heading out for a few hours.. but if she's not leaving till later, I'll do the 11am one...
Or .... why don't you ALL join the 11am group ride..?

@dangeourbrain please can you send me an invite to Sunday’s ride, it looks like it’ll be a bit damp in Surrey. I’m now following you on Zwift - I’m Southside Johnny.

Thanks

10 crossed my mind with an in head debate, then I thought it would be nice to have coffee to taper into the work day, so stopped at 8.... 🙂

Sorry folks but I'm going to have to cry off tomorrow - I don't think this should cause any problems beyond there not being a beacon.

My ride this morning totally wiped me out and I had to cut it short in the end, 25k and it felt like I'd done 250.

Pretty sure it's nothing to worry about in as much as all the symptoms are of a normal-for-me thing but this being 2020 I'm now waiting for test results before I can see the GP for my biannual prescription. If its what I expect I'll be rubbish tomorrow and won't be getting out of bed for a day or two anyhow.

Ta,

It'll be nowt I imagine. I get milder versions of the same thing a couple of times most years owing to some old head injuries, occasionally it d doesn't clear as vs instead gets on my chest but this year I tick the "killer death virus" box it seems not the "sinusitis and mild bronchitis, repeat prescription one". Ho hum.

don't worry Weeksy after waiting a while longer after you were showing as only be 10 secs back. then doing just 90w across the bridge without you coming by I guessed something was up.

at least I had a fairly gentle ride so I've got sowmthing in my legs to do tomorrow mornings as well.

Well God knows what happened there. I accidentally hit "not yet" to join the meet up thinking it'd show up again and it never did 😕

Weather's ok so I'll go for an outdoor run instead.
Enjoy all 🙂

Good ride that, was tough on that Gravel Bike to the jungle, really energy zapping, glad I swapped over to the road bike at the end of the Jungle for the final road bit, will know for next time to use the Gravel on the Jungle and not on the way!

Neil helped pace the last 5 miles I'd have probably backed off without that so thanks for that 🙂

Thanks all that was my first Sunday Hills ride and it was painfully enjoyable. Hopefully I'll be along to a few more this winter when the weather IRL is too nasty for Sunday MTB.

Good ride that...legs felt good today and it was a decent pace especially through the final flats.

@Swavis I've learnt never to say not yet to the blue box...evert time I do I never get it back...I just let it join.
