I've a ZS44/28.6 | EX44/40 headset to press. I've only previously pressed 1 1/8ย  external cup headsets and have press both cups simultaneously.

Is this a valid approach with a ZS44/28.6 | EX44/40?

I'll be using a press not blocks of wood.

Regardless of headset cups I always do one at a time so that one end is always stable. Pushing them in at the same time increases the chance of cock up

Yeah, same here, doing both at the same time just adds risk of one going wrong imo, I don't think there's any benefit to it.

That said, I fit all headsets with a rubber mallet. I have 2 headset presses, a couple of manual threaded presses, and a 12 ton hydraulic press, but rubber mallet is the best allround tool for it imo.

I've done both ways without incident, if your press can centre well doing one cup at a time then do that, doing both at the same time makes it centre better with multi stepped presses.

Okay, thanks guys.

I'm sure I picked up somewhere that pressing them together keeps them square to eachother, but that's probably nonsense. It's been ages since I pressed a headset so I'll watch a couple of videos to refresh my memory.

Assuming I used the press, for the first cup I assume that the opposing insert just rests on the headtube.

With the above headset, any benefit to pressing the upper (internal) or lower (external) cup first?

@PJay good work. Its def better one at a time as you can be stable and square in the headtube
