Anyone tried [url= http://lifehacker.com/5871102/repurpose-zip-ties-into-bicycle-snow-chains ]this[/url]
London commute planned for tomorrow as usual. The options are ice on the back streets and cycle tracks or stick to the main roads. Wondering if the zip tie approach is worth a try.

in that article makes me wonder if they understand why studded tyres work.The zip ties themselves dig into the snow nicely but are not thick enough to make the bike bounce.
Anyway, I imagine if you put zip ties on a typical road tyre you'll get more grip on the snow than if you don't (put still probably less than an mtb tyre). Can't see it helping on ice though.

I think what they mean is that you dont feel a bump every time the wheel rolls over one of the zip ties. Looks like a very good idea if you know that your route doesn't involve any exposed tarmac
completely shite if you get a puncture.
